I was asked by a North American wide publication to submit a mid-season review of the CASC-OR Solo 2 Championship Season. I spent part of my holidays writing and editing the article to the size and specs that were asked of me. I submit said article to which I recieved a response saying that they couldn't use it due to the fact that there were no last names included. Just thought you should know.

So you're saying that if your article had included last names, that they would have declined it or made you edit the last names out?

We don't need no stinkin exposure. We need machines that can control the weather conditions :D

And bigger lots ;)

Sorry to hear that your extra effort didn't pay off on this one Wes. Your Inside Track articles are still top notch though!!!!

Any reason why you can't say what publication this is?

I see you edited your original post to correct the statement.

Why not just give them last names?

Why not just give them last names?

Do a search for "Insurance" and "Cancellation" I don't mind if my last name is used but most (with good reason) don't.

An insurance company CANNOT(legally) cancel your insurance for racing a vehicle off-road, let alone because your name appeared in a magazine.

Tell that to a couple people on this board that have had that happen to them.

Yeah Josh, you haven't been on here long enough to see it but that has been the hot topic of conversation for the last couple of years on here. Many racers and solo guys and girls have had their insurance cancelled or raised when their companies found out they raced or saw their cars. I know mine is giving me a hard time for what they like to call "racing modifications"

Sorry to hear that Wes, sounds like you did tons of work...

Insurance companies illegally cancel insurance policies all the time. When I moved and was informing my insurance company of such, they asked if I had a roomate. They told me they needed his license and insurance information. I took my time getting back to them and only then ended up getting the license info to them. I got a notice in the mail a couple months later, stating that I was being refunded some money. I though, 'sweet, I guess this is from all those insurance rollbacks the government was forcing.' I wasn't on to it til I realized that 2 months of automatic withdrawls didn't take place. I called to ask what happened, and was informed that my insurance was cancelled 3 months earlier.

It turns out one of my customers is an automobile accident insurance lawyer, so I asked him what to do about it. He said they're forbidden by law to even ask about my roomate, since he's not related to me, therefore my insurance policy was cancelled illegally. He said I should contact my insurance companies ombudsman in writing. It turns out the word 'ombudsman' is like garlic to a vampire in the insurance industry. In my first attempt to contact him, I was asked what the problem was, was put on hold for 30 minutes then told that they were within their rights to cancel my plan. After telling this to the lawyer, he said they were just bullshitting me, and that I should try again to get the contact information of the ombudsman, who can only be contacted in writing. On my second attempt, I was once again given the run-around and the information wasn't given to me. Angered at the person I was talking to, I hung up, called back and demanded to speak to a supervisor. After another 30 minutes of run arounds and threats on my part, I was put on hold. 10 minutes later, an extremely polite and apologetic woman came on and told me that there was no need to contact the ombudsman, since she admitted that my policy was wrongly cancelled. After more apologies, my policy was reinstated at a lower price than I was previously paying.

An insurance company cannot invade your privacy, and the information they collect about you or what you do in your spare time cannot be used against you. Since by autocrossing, you are not a threat to other drivers on public roads nor breaking any laws or moving violations, they cannot cancel your policy.

If you are street racing, or modify your vehicle contrary to the law, that is a different story. If you are one of the people who had your policies cancelled, I suggest you contact your old insurance companies ombudsman as soon as possible. I will find out more information from my lawyer colleague in how it regards to this situation...

Gen, at the risk of re-opening this whole can of worms, get a copy of the Ontario Automobile Policy (complete wording) that ALL auto insurers must follow in the province. There is a section / paragraph that states that speed tests and timed events are prohibited uses of your insured vehicle. If they can prove that you have been involved in one of these, you may get lucky and get a second chance, however, you generally get a registered letter telling you that you no longer have insurance. End of story. They likely won't even write you a policy for the truck and trailer you now have to buy to continue your hobby.

The issue is not vehicle or property damage, but personal injury if someone were to go out of control, off course, injuring a spectator (or marshall). Although each event carries insurance for this, in these instances EVERYONE gets sued and the auto insurers want nothing to do with it.

Anyone heard from that CMI venture that was supposed to be starting up?

Anyone heard from that CMI venture that was supposed to be starting up?And the answer, posted yesterday at the SoloCanada forum is:
We are above 10,000 applications and waiting for the Insurance underwriters.

I have no date for the start of this policy. It is not dead.
The underwriters have not said no.

It is standard practice when writing articles to change the names to protect innocents who might receive undue attention. Just throw in a last name with the same first letter for the relevant individuals.

Being that I have an uncommon last name, (there's only 9 other listed families in Ontario with my last name), I am hesitant to want this.

Racing's great, publicizing about racing is great. But if you can't afford to insure your car because they move you to Facility rates, there's not much of a point.
