I spoke to Jason today. Not under circumstances I or he would have liked.
Apparently a wheel bearing on his trailer gave up the ghost and did a particularily bad number on his axle.
he was unable to get to yellow pages or anything like that so he called to see who was around. I was the lucky one to be in when he called, Through the power of the internet i directed him to a couple of places nearby, the first only dealt in trucks, the second was so busy they couldn't take him till next week, they did suggest someone else and I am happy to report that place will have Jason back on the road tomorrow.
At PEI he had an 8 second lead on second place after day 1. He took pity on his closest rival in F/SS and loaned him a set of R's for day 2
jason still won by 4 seconds giving him a 12 second win....this is on a 100 second course
Amazing stuff,, hopefully the balance of Jasons trip is uneventful.
I look forward to seeing him in Red Deer

...at the beginning of the year... he planned on running massive Solo 2 (like 3+ series), the full Solo 1 series and this x-canada trip... on a car with 200+k clicks on it... AND drive it on the street daily as his ONLY car!!!
This with a "modified" car....
The only thing going for that... was that the motor wasn't molested....
I thought.... GOOD LUCK!
Well.... He didn't do much Solo 1... so that's gotta help... and if this is the least that happens then all's good....
I wish him the best... it takes someone "special" to do what he's doing...
And I'm sure his bro will look fondly at this time for DECADES to come...
Pretty cool.

What's there to worry about? It's a Honda, not a Mazda.

True, but your motor would through connecting rods by the time I was actually interfering. On a Prelude you were safe to 10,000 rpm. 10,500 before you bent them enough to be un-drivable. Of course at around 10,750 you through rods. Most people I know that did float valves at the track drove home.
Wow I didn't know there were any clearance engines left! I thought they went out with low compression in the 80's?

Besides.......you've really gotta be negligent to break a timing belt. Kinda like starving your engine of oil..... ;)

All Toyota engines are non-interference. Except for the 2ZZ, but it only interferes after the cams change.

just a small correction. it's 304000 kms on the clock and holding steady there since something is wrong with the speedo/odometer/vehicle speed sensor/ wiring and I haven't had time to fix it.. who really needs to know how fast they are going anyways?

ohhh and I lost the other fender and one of the repacked wheel hubs is really heating up. I wish I knew more about those blasted things.

I love being in Toronto. some dude just tried to steal my tires out of my trailer... reasons for the failure in taking them..
1) Rob went outside and scared them off
2) the Dude got confused by the bunggie cords
ohhh well I leave tomorrow for safer places....

Hey Jason, don't take these "safer places" too much for granted.....
I'd be careful with your stuff wherever you are. :(
Enjoy! :D

A good old fashioned cable lock will go a long way for tires in a trailer.
