I have a dillema: go to the COMP event next Sunday, or Mazda Push-it-to the limit a week later.
Both were recommended to me as very good, but I don't want to be the last on the final-results-sheet if I go to Corvettes  . I also read that the Mazda guys take only a few no-series-registered cars, so there is a big chance of going there and not driving.
Opinions please..
BTW, is there a webpage for COMP? I couldn't find it, so I can't confirm if they run it next Sunday.

Just go to either of the events and have fun, it doesn't really matter where you place because there will allways be someone faster then you. Mazda club normaly takes quite a few people just show up early and get in the registration line on time and there should not be any troubles. Corvette lots is a lot more open so that help in your decision but PITL gives you a nice licks burger for lunch.

either way you go it will be fun, just go to have fun there are no prises for 1st anyways.

I'm not sure who you've been talking to, but lets clear the air:

The next PITL event is August 13th, not the 20th. Sadly, our website was incorrect but that has now been fixed.

We have no restrictions on registration for PITL events. As long as you register on time, you'll be able to run for the day. Our series registered competitor's get front of the line treatment for registration, amongst many other perks. We don't turn anyone away because they are not series registered. If you have any other questions about our events feel free to post them here or email the series at thelimit@rogers.com.

We hope to see you out next Saturday!

I was more worried if there would be somebody slower than me, ;) not faster, I'm still very early on my learning curve, and my 944 (street tires) can't compete with any Corvette, although it's definitely a fun car to drive.

Holy make up your mind :) We had it on Solo2Ontario as the 13th and were told that it was the 20th, now it's back to the 13th....

I may actually be able to make it after all! Anybody going to be there with a 2001 Jetta (or equivilant year)? I really need some seat time in a Jetta before the Nationals.....

Stan,
PITL is better for beginners because they encourage anyone and everyone to go on ride-alongs as a passenger as long as they signed the waiver.
While Corvette Club has stricter rules about who is allowed to be a passenger with which driver...

PITL always seems to have lots of firt timers so you should not come in last place since you have previous auto-x experience.

I don't think this is the official COMP website, but they have the info you're looking for Canadian Council of Corvette Clubs (http://www.quadceast.homestead.com/Slalom.html).
In particular, you're interested in the 2005 Slalom Event Schedule (http://www.quadceast.homestead.com/files/2005_Comp_Corvette_Flier__2_.pdf) pdf. From the pdf "Watch for further notices in the Star – Wheels Autodate section!". Those Corvette guys need a website.

I'm planning on going to both the Mazda and the Corvette events that weekend.

They both have their ups and downs. PITL is the more rookie friendly club with lots of other people on street tires to compare your times with. But COMP has that kick ass parking lot and courses I really like. I haven't been to a PITL event in a while, but the last few times I was they were simply a competition of who could turn their steering wheel the fastest.

There are organizational issues with both clubs. COMP is getting much better. I can't comment on MSCO since I haven't run one of their events in so long.

The PITL courses have tended to be much more open in the last 2 years, as compared to 3 or 4 years ago when I started. They don't really compare to COMP in that sense but they have made great improvements in fun factor. I prefer the COMP lot but prefer the PITL series overall. I don't think you'd finish last at either if you have some experience.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's not a clear cut as I see it, I would probably enjoy either.
I see a small problem with the Corvette event: in the results list posted in the link above they include the driver's first name and last name. I don't want to sound paranoid, but I don't need trouble with car insurance either (most of you know what I'm talking about). Short of having a fake ID, is there a "hack" I could pull to avoid my last name being listed on www?

You could always enter under a pseudonym. For example, if your name was Jeffrey, you could fill out the form as Jay.....if you were paranoid enough....

Today's Toronto Star Autodate also has the wrong date of the 20th.

Damn! Now I gotta head for Montreal Saturday night after PITL! I totally cant miss a regional and missing a PITL is just UNACCEPTABLE.

PITL vs COMP... no contest. COMP is too tight with ride alongs. You can learn so much from ride alongs.

COMP has been allowed ride alongs this year as long its not two rookies together in teh same car.

i agree. its one of the piss-off factors which i believe stops a lot of people from going.

i'll be going to pitl this sat - and the regional? wtf is an ontario regional doing being held in quebec? have fun boys and girls. that's well outside of my 200km free CAA+ towtruck ride :P

Rus,

Originally it was an MCO event to be held in the Ottawa area (still outside your 200km boundary). They lost the lot and joins forces with CADL to host and event. Try not to be too critical since it wasn't their first choice and the replacement event GUARANTEES to be top notch.

I cannot wait to see the course.

Hey Carl - are you planning to mirror a previous Topeka course?

I've run a few previous national courses in Detroit at the Silverdome.

nono, i meant the corvette thing is a drag w/ passenger rules.

i'm not happy about the MCO thing, but i totally understand it.

i dont have enough seat time this year to be remotely competitive, so the long drive is completely pointless for me.

...still can't decide.
I'll probably go to PITTL, and next time to COMP :)

To throw another wrench into it...

PITL has more curbs. Curbs = bad. :(

But yes I agree, PITL is better for people who need experience. Just be a ride slut... never put your helmet down after finishing your marshalling duties.

Funny enough I managed to avoid all the PITL ones, but tagged a COMP one... But it wasn't the fault of the organizing club, but rather a tire that delaminated...

Even COMP events have risks.
