For those interested BARC Member Tommy Mechan has offered up the Dunnville Autodrome for free lapping Saturday August 20 from 9am to 4pm. You can bring whatever you want to try on the track. Street cars, race cars, whatever. Yes there is a catch. You need to email me at crusher45 AT powergate DOT ca to get your name on the list on or before 6pm Thursday August 18. Everyone registered will be eligible.

Also for those who would like to try a race car, they have one for rent at $20 for 5 laps.

I do not know the set up but I know free works well for me.

For those who don't know the facility go here http://www.dunnvilleautodrome.com/

Anyone knows how far is Dunnville from Richmond Hill? Closer or further away than Shannonville?

Thx.

A lot closer. It's near Hamilton.

Good to know! When we had event 1 & 2 at Shannonville earlier this year, I drove back and forth, 4 times x 220KM + track time all in one weekend, that was rough. lol

but remember all the roads are slow once you get off the QEW, stop signs, traffic lights, cow crossing, etc etc

So what is the story on how the day will proceed? Group runs? Free for all? Is this confirmed as a go?

Big thanks to Crusher. Was a good day. Now I know what to expect at this coming weekend's solo1 race. No curbs, No run offs. Stay on the tarmac at all times.

No curbs???

WTF?

There are interlocking bricks similar to the ones you use on your drive way at some of the apex's on the tight corners and a pylon to prevent you from really cutting the corner. There are no exit candy cane strips, nothing. The turn is a turn, you either make the turn or the car's nose gets airbone when yuo smash the hardened dirt ruts immediately after tarmac. Good thing the rx7 oil pan, oil cooler and rad is flush with the rest of the underbody of the car. I had a bit of an advanture when someone dragged dirt into a corner and I couldn't scrub enough speed out to make the corner. The NSX behind me was proabbly thinking oh $hit!. The braking marker signs were hard to interpret. I found it hard to find braking points, maybe because there are no or very few references on the track. There are also no tire walls or anything, Just Hay barrels.

It's the same as last year, Bomber. Other than finishing off the washrooms, I think the facility is more or less unchanged from when we ran there last Sept. At least the "curbings" on the front straight chicane help make it more of a straight line, which should help prevent me from bending another set of trailing arms ;)

The organizers will DEFINITELY need to put apex cones in several places to prevent competitors from dragging gravel onto the track, especially Turn 4 (that fairly high speed righthander that leads onto the first of the three straight aways with heavy braking zone at the end of it. I think this will also be a problem in Turn 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9 :)

I thought I had heard that the curbings were in place, but looking back at the posts, it was only on the straightaway.

It's no problem for me - I'm used to the cones :)

At least this year we have the decision where we put the cones. If we can put the cones just off the asphault then at least we can actually use the track. Having the course narrowed by 1 foot on each side with cones ON the asphault last year was horrible. I need space!!!

I agree, Chris. Cones should be just off the asphalt, not on it and narrowing an already very narrow track. I think there's a Solo 1 Committee meeting this Thursday, so if you or your dad go, make sure to raise this point :)

You'll need a lot more room than that :)
