Hi All,

Just moved back to Canada after living for 4 years in North Carolina. Besides a hint of a southern accent, I picked up a hefty racing addiction while I was down there.

Need to get some cell (mobile) service setup here in the Great White North and I wanted to know which service has the best coverage at Mosport, Mont Tremblant, Shannonville, etc? In the US I had Verizon for the simple fact that they had the best reception at VIR, Road Atlanta, Roebling Road (Savannah), etc. Had great reception at The Glen and Mid-O too!

I NEED to be reachable at the track, otherwise the Powers that Be (my lovely wife) will be extra displeased with me after race weekends (and believe me, she's already displeased enough with this money pit of a hobby as it is).

Thanks in advance,
Matt

My Bell Mobility Motorola phone gets excellent reception at all of those tracks...

I can't confirm Tremblant, but will also confirm Bell Mobility for the Ontario tracks is no problem. My phone switches to analog at SMP though, maybe just a phone issue as it is an older model. I just take my charger with me and it is no problem.

Telus is out of the question. Not good reception downtown Toronto. Actually it's fine there not at Mosport. 1/2 a bar if you're lucky.

Yup, Bell here as well, and no issues (never been to Tremblant, though!)

I've used Bell with success at Tremblant as well as Mosport and SMP.

Wait a minute! You lived in North Carolina for 4 years and in that time became addicted to road racing?

Something sounds fishy! Atlanta seems to be the road racing hot bed of the south; but North Carolina? That's the heart of Nascar country boy! Road racing is damn near sacriligious there!

:D

Well, I lived in Durham, not Charlotte (or more appropriately, Mooresville), and VIR was less than an hour from my house. Actually closer than the nearest NASCAR track.

Atlanta is more road racing than NASCAR, but Florida is the real racing hot bed. Just about every big time sports car racing outfit has a shop somewhere between Daytona and Miami.

Bell sucks at mosport - signal is very patchy. Good by the washrooms, not good where the marshal's trailers are, non existant in the lower paddock. Several of us hold this opinion and are waiting for our contracts to end.....

I've got no problems with Rogers at Mosport or Shannonville so far.

I just bought new Bell phones with the new 10-4 walkie-talkie service. It is absolutely useless at Mosport :( . The 10-4 NEVER works and the regular wireless service is intermitent at best.

It never works at any of the marshal positions or in the lower paddock.

For Bell, there are a few 'holes' at Mosport. Probably down in 5/6 and definitely the lower paddock sucks. I used to climb on top of my trailer's tire rack to get good reception. Upper paddocks, mock grid, etc, seems to work better. Largely depends on the phone too I would think.

Maybe we Bell subscribers can get Lew McKenzie to have a word with Bell Mobility. :p

BELL is the best, period. It works at both of those tracks.
I travelled to Newfoundland and PEI recently and it worked flawlessly, even out on the ferry!
If you are worried about a few hot spots caused by geography, get a satellite phone. ;)

Rogers doesn't work that hot either unless your standing directly under the sun looking west (or is it east) oh well doesn't work anyway.... ummmmm maybe thats a good thing nobody can find me.......

My Telus service at Mosport has been apalling through four different phones now. Oddly, Mosport is pretty much the only place in North America that I've been in the past two years where the cell service isn't excellent. Typical!

Same here! Should have seen me on Wednesday evening trying to find a spot to return an urgent message...I felt like the guy on the "can you hear me now" ad, only not so successful!
