Organizing the 2002 Mobil 1 Solo 2 Regional Championship series has been quite a challenge. Several issues have interfered with the timely confirmation of the events on our calander. Hopefully most of the challenges are past and we can get on with enjoying the 2002 competition season.
The new insurance rules, costs and procedures have been one of the stumbling blocks but most of the details are now known to the organizing clubs - some information is still pending release by ASN-FIA. It appears that even though insurance costs have risen over last year, Solo II in Ontario is still a viable sport and is affordable both to the clubs organizing the events and the entrants competing.
Entry fees will probably be slightly higher. I can't predict exactly what each club will charge for the days activities but I am hopeful that even with increased lot costs and insurance charges clubs will keep the entry fees in line.
Now onto the good stuff!
Yes it is true that St Lac will be holding the first event in our schedule. The date of May 26th has not changed but the location has been moved to an airport facility just south of Picton. Not that far from where St Lac has held events in previous years. A map is available at this site http://www.motorcycleridertv.com/AIRPORTNEW1.htm.
Another change is the BAC event being held in conjunction with the Competition Corvette Club. The date has been moved to June 9th and the lot being used is the Bronte GO station. This lot is known to many. It is large, open and will be one of our premier events.
Unfortunately due to the changing nature of access to parking lots and open pieces of pavement in our province it is vital that competitors check our home on web for information and updates ( http://solontario.com/solo2 ). Please don't drive across the province without checking the latest information. I will also try to contact everyone via e-mail about any changes or problems but the competitors have to take responsibility for ensuring they have the latest info. Steve Cole will be hosting a Solo II email list.
Wes Tanney (event coordinator), Wendy Smith (series registrar) and my self are looking forward to a great season. We have expanded the schedule. We are trying a few ideas (such as the double header at the Hershey centre) AND the clubs are trying to obtain great areas of pavement for our driving pleasure.
