I have just bought a old Formula V. I have been looking at the rules and notice that the Fire regulations require a 2 layer suit, gloves, shoes underwear,etc...
My question is what is the rules for a super 7 ( that has fenders ) does the driver only need a single layer suit, shoes, and gloves? Which is the same for a closed wheel with slicks.
I am just running club events and not reginals.
Thanks Rick

That clause will more than likely be removed from the 2006 rule book. It apparently is dated and not needed.

so does that mean I need the single or 2 layer suit?

It means it is an obsolute rule and fire suits will probably not be required in Solo 2 at all.
Now in my opinion the driver and crew of ANY Mod car should be required to wear full shoes and long pants....... But, who the h*** am I to make silly rules like that?

I agree to that. Most US clubs require that for lapping in any car. I also think that closed shoes should be required of every driver in Solo-2 (it they aren't already) WOSCA requires them for lapping days, and I intend to start adding it to our sup-regs for solo-2 (since we've been getting people coming to our events in sandles too often lately).

Why are sandals a problem in solo 2? I've always worn sandals (even at the winter autoxes :D )

It's ok Wes,make the long pants mandatory for mod-I can afford pants but buying a firesuit just to dodge cones for 35 or so seconds seems a little harsh.Besides that I'd need to buy 2 suits, can't sqeeze me into Lisa's and she'd look a little funny swimming around in mine. :D

Gas pedal setting stuck?
Inbetween the foot and sandal...
could slip off
could get HOTT coolant on your feet...
No place for sandals in Motorsport.

4.10 N of the rulebook (which governs all solo2 in Ontario under CASC-OR)
All competitors, workers, and other participants shall wear appropriate footwear that fully covers the foot
while driving and working on the course. Appropriate footwear does not include sandals, slippers, opentoed
shoes, etc.

And I have quoted and mentioned that to a couple of people this year. One even made a point of pointing out that they had indeed worn full shoes at the next event.
The reasons are exactly as Jeff has pointed out, when driving. When marshaling there could be any number of hot fluids, gasoline, stones (while running to pick up cones), bees (if your hopping around with a bee sting between your toes, your not watching the vehicles coming at you), etc.
This has always been in the rule book but never really enforced. We as Solo 2 competitors, crews, and spectators take a lot of safety issues for granted and ignore them.

If you're hopping around with a bee sting between your fingers or your eyes, you're not going to be watching the vehicles coming at you either!

There is no rule to prohibit you from wearing gloves and protective eyewear...

With what some of you mofos look like, the sport could be improved by necessitating full body (incl face) coverage at all times ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Generally people don't start hopping around because they got stung in the face or hands, it is more common to swing the hand around in the air in a not so happy manor. Also the sting to the face would deffinitly be followed by one if not both hands covering your face and then followed by a few not so nice words and maybe even passing out due to certain reactions to such stings.
Thats it lets bring flyswatters and those funny smoke things to control the bee population at events. :p :p
