The Solo 2 Workshop time and venue has been confirmed.

11am November 5th at Le Biftheque Steakhouse in the banquet rooms in the back, 25 Carlson Court, Etobicoke, ON M9W 6A2, 416-798-4333

Coffee and tea will be servered and a lunch menu will be available for those who would like to eat.

Agenda to follow next week....

Please send me a list of items you would like to see discussed at the workshop with the reason why it should be discussed and any proposals on the topic.

I will not be entertaining comments like "I don't care, it needs to change!" If you have something to say and some decent input into how it should be, please send it to me at solo2guy@sympatico.ca.

If it is not on the agenda, it will not be discussed at length.

The Overall championship..... don't complain and whine that it is unfair, give me suggestions as to how it should be fixed. Remember that someone without a lot of free time will be trying to implement it, so no "well we need this pax for this condition, lot, surface, temperature." If it is pax used to determine the overall, there will be only ONE pax! Come up with some numbers and the reasoning behind those numbers.

We will have about two hours to discuss everything so make sure it is concise and to the point!

Will you post the minutes of the discussion on the solo2 site afterwards?

Thanks

e-mail sent: regarding bias towards FI cars...

This is an issue? The rulebook seems to address carbs adequetly. Besides, except for Andrew, I don't think there are any regular competitors not in an FI car...

I think he means Forced Induction :P

And I've got something to say about that too - I'm just working on the numbers before I send to Wes...

all is good for me I have no complaints about the rules.... (although I would like clarifications on certian aspects made clear in future rule books...maybe I will write Wes an email)

Of course the clarifications I'd like are for the creative rules interpretors in thsi sport.

We're gathering up items for discussion, I'll PM Wes with a list shortly. Curious, is flipping stock upper control arms legal for stock class? That's rhetorical, Subaru's don't have upper control arms to flip.. LOL :p

Since I won't be able to attend the workshop, will there be an opportunity to address the agenda items before or after?

Perhaps the best way to address this and other issues is to forward them to the workshop along with a representative from your club.

Having been at the last couple of workshops and seeing the lack of representation from the field it is apparent that few really have the interest or inclination to be constructive to making the sport better. However, as the year goes on there are more and more people bitching about the rules.

If each club submitted proposals from thier membership and then if the clubs voted on the changes then perhaps we may have a better rule set that satisfies everyone.

I see the lack of representation differently... I see it as acceptance of the current rules and them not having a beef with the rule set.... if there's nothing I have to complain about I wouldn't want to waste an afternoon attending a whine fest either.

That said I'll still be there...

and it would really be nice if a representative of every organizing club for the regional series showed up.

I also agree with Jason that this has the potential to be a big time wasting whinefest with everyone saying "I don't like this and I don't like that...."

I will also bring to everyone's attention that I couldn't care less how YOU are affected by the rules and any potential changes. This workshop is about the Sport in Ontario and specifically the Regional Series and ALL of it's competitors, not about specific people's car or classification issues. Think bigger than your personal situation!

This would be nice as I will be in travelling in Japan at the time of the workshop and dinner...

if you go and give your input..

1) raise your concern

then

2) have your recommendations on how to reslove it

i've sat in on them in the past, and it can be a bitchfest

whoever chairs it.. bring a big stick!!

and a cheeze platter for the quiet folk

Maybe this is naive, but perhaps this is an opportunity to talk meaningfully about the whole insurance and liability situation for Solo II......I agree with prior comments that reading Inside Track articles about Solo activity with 'Bob M.' or 'Fred S.' or whatever, seems awkward.

Secondly, I think it would also be useful to agree on a process whereby if a vehicle is reclassed from one year to the next, any notice of the reclass should be accompanied by an explanation 'why'.

Thanks

Wes, can you post the times and location, i think this post is getting lost, either that or no one cares about the meeting and next years rules
perhaps a sticky to see how many may come out?

Last year there wasn't much posting about the workshop and we still had 20 or so competitor's come out.

I wouldn't worry. I'm sure SPDA will be well represented ;)

We can talk about insurance until we are blue in the face, but until the insurance industry pulls their heads out of their, well, let us try that another way, until they realize that we are NOT street racers than nothing will change.

The CASC-OR President has opened a dialogue with the appropriate person in the Insurance Bureau and things are progressing, albeit slowly. I am sure that when the goal is met, there will be posts indicating it!

Car classifications..... CASC-OR uses CAC car classifications which are based off of SCCA Stock and SP classes. Ontario changes when Canada changes when SCCA change...... No further explainatoin necessary, just read SCCA's newsletter every month to stay on top of things.

Is there a site where items are proposed and discussed before the rules come out? Are the rules posted somewhere?

Is there a site where items are proposed and discussed before the rules come out? Are the rules posted somewhere? No. At present there is about 20 or so unofficial participants in the CAC TAC and seven official members. This Sub-Committee basically reports to ASN Canada FIA SoloSport Committee (which I am not a member of, but Christian is....). This falls entirely under the ASN banner and is still fairly new, in it's official capacity.

If there are concerns about the rules, send you regional rep an e-mail and they will propose any changes to the CAC rule book. btw the current CAC rule book is on ASN's web site.

ASN CAC regulations -

both rule books are used at the national level. they are a long read but should be known by anyone going to the nationals.

(even if they are using stock virgin parts they can't use them where ever they want)

intent should not be an issue when it comes to following equipment guidelines

Interesting. I always assumed it was a grey area, and never found it written down in the rulebook. Thanks.

Is there a reason that this question has arisen, btw?

I do know of one competitor who, through no fault of his own, ran a car like that. As soon as he found out the parts had been installed incorrectly, he fixed the mistake. Almost like a competitor unknowingly running a set of cams that had been installed by an engine builder. He is still illegal, but there is no intent to cheat.

Can we add or detail-out #4 to include:

longterm rule alignment direction (SCCA or otherwise)

Series purpose / goal (vs. local club series') - we need to clarify the differentiation

Detailed protest and appeal process and timeline clarification.
-people knowing their roles
-people clear in their jurisdiction
-clarifying which level is responsible for what?
-adhering to said process

Agreement to use the rulebook first and only then, if there is uncertainty, to elevate the situation.

People in their respective roles performing their duties, as opposed to elevating it beyond.... (CASC should be making decisions re: CASC rule book interpretations... not CAC imho.)

Several other rulebook shortcomings that were discussed / pointed out / acknowledged during a certain protest but never seemed to make it to the "findings"..

Removing the R-Word from our main Solo 2 page!!! http://www.casc.on.ca/solo2.php

another silly question..

because it is a regional workshop.. and people can't attend because of distance

how about a few people who are actually interested...
different clubs, or coneheads whatever have some wings

and all meet up on something like this...

http://businessesales.att.com/products_services/teleconferenceproduct_catalogdisplay.jhtml

yes.. it can be a bad thing, if it isn't managed properly..

i can't think of another idea.. for people outside the GTA to attend
or for those stuck at home

From what I recall:

-Proposed rule changes will go through the CAC technical advisory committee

- proposed rules are as follows:
- Clutch changes allowed in SS
- No aftermarket LSD in stock (removing the 1 point for LSD in stock class allowance)
- camber adjustment devices allowed in SS under the 3 points for other suspension mods(such as Camber plates adjustable ball joints etc...)

- request for a definition of Forced induction system and what is allowed when taking those prep points for addition (4 points) or modification (2 points) of a forced induction system

I'm sure there were other things.... but I forget.

I'll post them when I get around to finishing them. Until then life goes on and things need to get done that are NOT Solo related.

Here is hoping it will be my LAST official duty!
