I looked over the classification in the rule book but can't find my car. It's an 85 Camaro Z28 (not IROC). It has the stock 305 LG4 (155 HP) and auto tranny.

What class would that be in? I'm thinking Touring 3.

What's the car's factory curb weight? Assuming it's around 2900-3000 lbs, the car would be at the top of T3 or the bottom of T2. It also depends on what suspension rating we'd give the car. I assumed 10% lower than the IROC.

Curb weight for the Z28 Coupe is listed as 3273 lbs.

I was looking for a good starting point because I'll be modifying the crap out of it including a 380-400 HP 350SBC, eibach springs, koni yellows, and various suspension upgrades like stiffer lower control arms, panhard rod, and upgraded sway bars front & back. Wheels will be either 17" or 18", but with just quality street tires like Yokos AVSES100.

That heavy, eh? Well in that case it's definitely T3.

Yes, I was a little surpised also. It will probably be a little lighter once I'm done, and will find a scale and get a definite number.

Thanks.

I hope you plan on putting is a 5-speed as well :)

I wasn't planning on doing that for 2006 simply because a T-5 won't hold that kind of power for very long. As far as a T-56 6-speed transplant, it's still too expensive at $3000-4000 even if you find everything for a good price. Although it'll probably cost me $2000 to rebuild the 700R4 properly. I plan on doing more drag racing than road stuff, which the auto will be better for.

The sacrifices of a multi-use machine. :D

Anyone know a place that has a engine dyno in the Toronto/Hamilton area? Also, what the average cost would be for a few runs on it? I'll probably do that before I stuff the engine in the car that way I can get an accurate HP/TQ number instead of using a wheel number & conversion.

Try TAG in Oakville for a dyno. Pretty reasonable at $75/hour.

Make sure that you have a good tranny cooler. The #1 killer of automatics is heat... which is a given in road racing (even Solo).

FYI, there are other good trannies between a T5 and a T56. I have a Tremec 3550 5-spd in my car which has been plenty reliable in the 4 seasons on track. It was also used as a drag tranny in another car prior to that. The only problem that we've had with it... it was torn apart when the chassis and subframe twisted in different directions (a big problem with a Fox Mustang and solid mounted engine/tranny).

You should be able to locate a good 3550 in the $1000-1500 range. A T56 is just an unneccesary extra gear and all of the weight baggage that that entails.
