Our esteemed Solo 1 Director asked me to post this notice:

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

In the interest of building the levels of competitors and to attract new people to Solo I competition in Ontario, CASC-OR SOLO I will now institute a Temporary Licensing System for competitors who want to try Solo I. The Temporary Solo/Basic License will cost the NEW competitor $10 and is valid for 1 weekend of competition, ie; Events 3&4. The license will be granted to any person who completes a CASC-OR License Application and fulfills all the necessary requirements under the Solo I Regulations and the "Temporary Licensed" competitor must complete all of the registration forms currently used in Solo I. CASC-OR SOLO I will recognize any "Temporary" Club membership for the same period as the Temporary License is issued. Fees for "Temporary" Club Memberships shall be determined or waived by each club. Clubs issuing a Temporary Membership for a Solo I weekend will not be required to send in any affiliation fees for that competitor at that time.
If a competitors wishes to continue to compete after the "Temporary" trial period, he/she shall be required to re-apply for a full Basic/Solo License at the regular $50 fee.

Official CASC-OR Solo I Temp Policy:
1 weekend/2 Event, Temporary Basic Solo License: $10, paid by the competitor.

Only 1 Temp License & Membership per person.
New driver will compete with a "Driving Coach" and display the Novice Triangle until signed off by a Series official.
New drivers will NOT be allowed to carry passengers until they are signed off by a Series Official.
If person wants to continue to compete after the first event or two;
Then he/she will then join an affiliated club (at full membership rate)
Clubs will then send in affiliation fee for that new member.
He/she will re-apply for a full Solo Basic license which will then cost the regular $50.00.
This offer not valid to any previous license holder.

Good job, glad to see this. This sort of incentive is imperative to the growth and future of the sport. Without new heads, there's no one to replace those who move onward and/or upward. I hope that every seasoned competitor gets back onto bugging every guy they know with a car to try this out.

It's now become cheaper than a lapping day and it can be much more fun.

If they come out, they'll get hooked.

Perry/Christian,

I would like to come out and try a Solo I event, this weekend at the DDT using the new temporary licence system, you guys have cooked up. I am already a member of OMSC. Should I pre-register or just show up? If I should pre-register how do I do that? Also I have a home built super 7 clone on DOT R compound Toyos, would I be in A modified or B modifed?

thanks,
Ron Pasdernick

You can just show up on the day, but things would go faster if you faxed me your forms ahead of time.

Take a look at the Info link off the main Solo Ontario page, print off the .PDF forms, and fax them to

905-335-1334

Your car is an A-Mod. You can check out some of the previous results to see how other Caterham, Lotus, & Wolfe's have done. You will be in good company.

See you this weekend!

Hey Mr Registrar.. you have email...

Personally I hate PDFs, but we are a technology limited organization right now.

Let's hope that CASC puts something together that we can all use to make the registration processes a bit more straightforward.

Here's a compromise: Take a look at the PDF registration forms on the Solo Ontario Info Page. eMail me with the info from all the fields and I'll hand-write them onto the forms. Then the drivers can sign the forms at the track. Yuck.

Thanks for the fax, Ron. I'll also need the Prep Point Declaration form - at least the header part with the year, colour, etc. The list of mods likely won't make sense for your home-built car.

on it's way Rob. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to before the weekend to make it easy for you guys and me of course.

thanks,
Ron

Rob: Wired has a registration system for events. We used it with the first ASCC Race school. Visa Payment, email confirmation, tailored registration and tech inspection form printout. Worked well. We could easily add one for Classifications.

Perhaps something for 2003?

Hell yeah. The easier we make it for people to register (and the more info we can provide to them about cost, refund policy, etc.) the more likely we are to grow the series. I like it!

I just love when members of the motorsport community jump in and offer to help out. Taylor, we'd love to see the system you talked about. Anything to make life for us more streamlined and user friendly would be great. In fact I already accept your offer to volunteer and get the ball rolling for 2003. Who knows maybe Solo I would be the pioneer in streamlined efficiency in Ontario Motorsports.
Let's talk soon so we can get the ball rolling for the next "Director".

Perry,
Well this is the sort of thing Wired Motorsports was created to do. Though based on the context of your message, it should be told that there is a cost associated with doing this. The only reason we're not still doing it with ASCC and their race school is because out of less than 20 students, only 11 registered online, we're lucky if we made $30 on it. And of course that's hardly profit considering the time and effort that went into developing the system. So I'd say we're -$3970. :)

We do have someone else who will be using the system for Gift Certificate ordering (the system at it's core is pretty flexible, then again, I'm a software developer, so everything is pretty flexible) :)

Anyhow the registrar has been in contact with me, so I gather we'll discuss the requirements and once agreed on, we can move on to the Director and/or Comittee.

Stay tuned...

As you know CASC is going through a revitalization of services and want to ramp up to the new millenium and offer this type of system in the new scheme of things. Talk to Rob McAuley he's on the technical committee who will be springing into service shortly now that the working committee has almost finished their evalutaion of the CASC business practices. just maybe you can be part of the solution the President of the board envisions.
