I was just wondering what the cost for just this Saturday. This will be my first time doing this and I allready know I can't afford to run the rest of the series. Also what time should I be at the track etc etc etc etc and I think with the rear sway bar on the car and muffler and cone filter I should be in B2 (base b3) I drive a 97 Z24 Cavalier.

Ryan, with those modifications you'll be in B/SS2.

Registration closes by 8:30am, so be at the track no later than 8am so you've got time to get your car unpacked, scrutineered, tires changed (if you're bring a set for the track), and then registered in the timing tower.

Cost is $110 per event if you pre-registered. It may be slightly higher if you pay at the track. Other than that, you'll need to buy a temporary race license at $10 (only valid for 1 week) and get a temporary CASC club membership (which will be offered for free by one of the organizing clubs and is only valid for one week). So your total cost will be about $120 for the day.

If you want to do another weekend event, you'll have to buy a full race license (which is $50 less the $10 you spent for the temporary one) and a full membership with a CASC affiliated club like TAC, BAC, OMSC or HADA (Honda/Acura's only). Membership with these clubs ranges in price from about $30 to $65 a year.

Hope to see you at the track,
Dave

Thank you for all the info. Wow what kind of cars are running in B/ss2 ? I only have toyo RA1's. So I will more then likly have to leave Toronto around 6 to get there in time maybe earlier. I allready am a member of TAC so that isn't a problem, and the one time deal for the Casc licence is a good thing. hopefully I will be able to make it there.

No problem, Ryan.

Most of the cars in B/SS2 have upgraded their shocks and springs with the prep points available to them at this level, though some have opted to put more into their engine than suspension. The cone filter is a free mod in SS2 (no prep points required) but it's not legal for Stock class so that moves you up, as does the sway bar. The muffler is an allowable mod in Stock class though, so if you're determined to run in Stock class you could put the stock airbox and swaybar back on the car for the weekend. Otherwise, just run it in B/SS2 and have fun! It's your first Solo 1 event, so don't expect too much in terms of your lap times compared to the more experienced guys in your class. Have fun with it, try to improve during the day, and you'll leave with a good feeling. Stick around for the Saturday night BBQ too, you'll get to know some of the Solo 1 crowd this way.

Cheers,
Dave

Think I'd be welcome if I threw $5 on the pot to stop by, chow a burg and say hello this Saturday?

byob, we don't support motorsports and alcohol consumption. Pop, juice and water will be supplied, along with some grub :)

I personally feel that if a club wants to supply beer, out of their own clubs pocket, fine.

But, if it's coming out of entry fees....forget it.

Just my opinion!

it does come from the clubs pocket... BAC is the leanest running club ..

I was hoping I would never have to say this here but you guys are post whores hehehe.

Ok I will be there on Saturday, I was wondering are there any characteristic of this track similer to the TMP course? I have been on that track about five times and DDT once.

I guess you could say Shannonville is similar to TMP in the sense that it's a flat track, no elevation changes to speak of, and the Fabi straight is long like the Cayuga straight, but otherwise they're really quite different. I would have to say the Fabi and Pro configurations at Shannonville are quite a bit tougher to figure out (takes some experience to go fast here) but the Nelson config is quite simple and easy to figure out. Cayuga is really a pretty straight forward layout, with the one section on the backhalf with the linked S-turns being a bit tricky and then the decreasing radius turn 2 turns before the front straight being a tough one to get right, but all in all I'd say that Shannonville is a more challenging track overall. Of course that's just my opinion, some people may disagree. DDT is the most technically challenging track we run on, IMO, with a lot of different corner shapes and elevation changes, off camber turns, etc.

One hairy man's opinion,
Dave

Ok kewl, Are we allowed to take a walk around the track in the morning? I walked the DDT track when the OMSC had there lapping day. I agree the DDt was much more challanging then TMP and I really enjoyed the change in elevation. When OMSC had there lapping day it was counter clockwise most of the outer circut with the kink infront of the pit wall. I had street tires on that day and everytime I went in to the first corner with the cold tires I would get a really long slide around the first two left hand corners.

Ok I am really starting to look forward to this Saturday :)

Ryan, since you're new to Shannonville you will definitely want to have an instructor in the car with you during the morning practice session and possible for your first run of the day. At the Driver's Meeting we will ask everyone that's new to track to pair up with an instructor and hit the track for some morning practice runs before the event starts. This'll give you a chance to see the course and accelerate your learning curve by having an instructor showing you the line and braking points etc. I'm sure you'll enjoy the competition environment once the event starts, it's quite a different feeling from just being at a lapping day.

Should be a great weekend,
Dave

Ok my car is going to be done this afternoon (body shop). and I get paid and vacation cheque (yes guy) so unless I don't wake up tomorrow morning I will be there. How many instructers are there normally, and is it allright to ask for a specific person if they are there?
