I got a chuckle out of a 2000 Bentley.

Original price $307,000 USD

High bid $135,000 USD

Now that's the definition of depreciation, no? :D

which is why I'm in no hurry to sell the VW. The latest classic motorsports shows a 66 VW bus went for $99K at auction recently.

the way i drive my car i'll be suprised if it survives till 2010...

cars are ment to be driven people!! i dont understand this whole vintage/collection thing of cars.

or at the very least paying more than what the car is actualy worth (assuming CPI is taken into account)

Judging from what I saw, I'm going to get a Hemi engine and stick it in a Lada. From the craziness people were bidding all things Hemi I'd get $1Billion easy! ;)

Anyone who would buy a Bentley deserves it.

I'd happily buy a Bentley Continental GT at a the right price. It is the fastest four-seater, two-door in the world... so I don't know where you can find fault with Bentley.

Now lets look at the biggest winner (or pos) Barret Jackson themselves. Any idea how much the total value of all cars auctioned was? Let's say $100 million (I didn't watch much). Now BJ charges a 8% buyers premium and 8% sellers premium. That in total adds up to $16 million in premiums/kickbacks plus gate revenues of non-bidders/spectators, lease of vendor space, and more. These guys make a fortune off of 76% muscle car sales. Insane...

And don't forget the price SpeedTV pays for airing the auctions live. Big bucks.

Yes there was huge money made there by Barrett Jackson, and just look what theyve done to the price of American Classics, Hot Rods and Muscle Cars. 2 Million dollars for a Hemi Cuda Convertable????And if you noticed EVERY car auctioned was NO RESERVE! That is a very scary position for the seller, Im sure the owner of the Bently bought his own car back and just paid the 8% fee.

A very Historic & Original High Wing Lola Can Am car that was Canadian owned was recently auctioned at the RM Auction in Monterrey, again NO RESERVE. The owner had originally wanted $150,000 to 175,000 USD, realistically the car was worth somewhere in that range. It sold at Auction for $75,000 USD, talk about a kick in the balls

The funny thing is that these guys dont remember the past! I remember when a mid 60's GT40 went for close to a million dollars--the one in the auction sold for $200,000-300,000 I think. Ferrari Daytona's/427 Cobra's were pulling close to a million. Now............thats not a sound investment to me. As someone who makes a living in the retail car business, the Barrett-Jackson is just a place to be seen and get on TV. Most of these guys are just wealthy people who found something that is kind of a fad, paying huge coin for muscle cars that the factory couldnt sell new! Anyways, just my 2cents woth and time will tell..........
