Well Pat and I have been trying in vein to explain King of the Hill, to people that haven't seen it so I finally got some videos up. For the record the announcers knew the Mustang owner, so the HP figures are apperently from a dyno session.
The videos are here:

Not to throw too much water on the fire of arrogance, but you do know that it would be next to impossible to actually make use of more than a fraction of his power in that competition for more than a second, right? Cornering is cornering, and it doesn't mean a fig how much power he has until he comes out of the corner and can get it to the ground. You can also just about read his mind... "he's right next to me, I can't slide up if I try to use more power, so I'll have to stay right here" on the first corner. Using 440rwhp and similar torque would be like ice skating with dull blades on those corners.
That said, I enjoyed the video. :) I've been invited to these a few times, but the announcer saying you two nearly touched demonstrates why I've turned it down and swallowed my desire to try it.

DUH!
I'm one of the only people in the entire facility that does know that. Never the less the traction difficulties of getting a FWD car off the line make the launch fairly impressive IMHO. BTW he was on BFG G-force KDW.

Why don't you come out to some Solo 1 events? Wouldn't it be a lot more fulfilling beating similarly prepared vehicles

Can't afford it. I will when I'm done school and have a full time job.

Well, if it's a "DUH!" sort of thing, maybe you'll consider changing this to something less ridiculous:
So that's the answer to the old question. "How much power will it take for a V8 to beet a 4 cyl Honda?" Apparently it's 500+!
But then, you wouldn't be cockyracingguy. :)

The text is for the Delaware locals. It is relatively valid. If you can't make your car get through the corners, then how much power does it take to get down two short straights fast enough to beat a car that can get through corners. Apperently 500 will do it. Or at least 500 will do it if you have the inside line...
I am perfectly aware that with the same tires on both cars it would have been different. I also don't think that anyone on this board is dumb enough to think that it wouldn't be. The whole point of the comment was "Power isn't everything." A fact that seems to be lost on domestic lovers around here (here being London, not this board). One of my goals is to get these same people interested in doing some Solo where they can come out and really learn to drive and not depend on their right foot to solve all problems. I could very easily go out and have a JRSC installed for the next one of these and win with my eyes closed. But I'd much rather find a way to take turn 4 at 5500 rpm in 3rd drive around a car with more than twice my power.

Looks like fun. I would like to try it. How much does it cost? When is the next one coming up?
looks like fun to me too. When's the next one? Would be fun beatin' up on the pushrod crowd, eh Steve ;)

The cost is you $12 gate admission to watch the nights racing.
The next and last one is Labour Day weekend. They also do this at Mosport and Barrie.

Nah, if I mess up and tag your tin can, I'll probably kill you, Dave. :) I don't have problems with ovals, I've done a few of them. That's tight quarters compared to the ones I did, though. Wanna run me at MIS?
Steve, if you hit me with your Firechicken I'd be in serious trouble! Still, nice thing about a cheap tin can like mine is that it's darn cheap to replace body panels :)
I ran my Dad's 75 corvette on the Cayuga oval back in the late 80's at a C4 event. That was seriously fun though being up close to the wall was bit scary (mostly because I knew my dad would kill me if I stuff his fiberglass baby into the wall). Ah memories, ain't they grand!? :p

Marsh, that Japanese Gymkhana video, is that for real. Thats ferking amazing. That car flies and the driver, wow. The only thing that guy could do to impress me more is say it was his first run.

Yeah .. props to that LanEvo driver.. how do they follow the course map for something like that? Is it just freestyle or do they draw it all out like some kind of crazy football play?
Because there are just a bunch of cones that he bounces back and forth between .. too bad there aren't more videos of other cars on the same course!

No there's actually a course map for that. I've never seen a real one until I found that video. I have seen it done with RC car when I was a teen, but never that long a course.
