View Full Version : A Chance to Spend $1M On Your Solo 2 Car.

Suppose a very large company decided they wanted to sponsor you and your current car for Solo 2, and they were giving you a budget of $1M. How would you modify the vehicle?
The car must be your current one. (You cannot buy a new one.)
You can spend up to $1M on modifications.
The sponsor would be willing to transport the car to and from events, at no charge, and without affecting the $1M car-mod budget.
Hmm, what to do?

I'd settle for $100G :)

Built motor, bigger blower, wheels, tires, carbon fibre this, lightweight that... I might be able to spend $30k if I try hard enough.
So the rest goes to a bigass house and garage to work on it.... :D
Cage,
Tube frame the sucker
Carbon Fibre all body panels
WRC Sequential Gear Box
WRC Style engine and management (All torque due to restrictor plates, woohoo!)
Lighweight suspension components
Short ratio steering gear
Make is look like a bone stock daily driver, but only weighing 2200 Lbs with 500 Lbs ft of torque.
That'll get it up to more than 1/2 million.

I'd hire a machanic, and a driver :D
I'd rather drive it myself, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be sponsored next season if I did.

I already spent that much on my car. I would top off the gas tank and buy beer.

uhm... buy land, buy off city officials, make a concrete pad about 1 mile by 1mile, get golf carts for hired marshalls and go test and tune for a couple hours. :D maybe invite some other pylon crushers.

I guess the quickest way to spend the money would be full Carbon fibre chassis, body. Have a Chevrolet Z06 engine mid mounted with maybe a supercharger for shits and giggles. Full Cantilever suspension ohlen shocks with some very large carbon rotors with BTCC sized calipers(or well maybe scale them down so they will fit an 18" rim) and run the car ooooooooon Methanol, I wonder if that would work? Oh and we can't forget the cone shreader front splitter the rear splitter and a nice purposefull wing mounted just a couple inches down on the rear glass(more like vented cover)
that would be sweet :)
edit: I have allways wanted a stackstackstack Instrument cluster add that too. oh and one of those system that record all the parameters while driving and sending information to my pit crew.

I like Joe's thinking here, there is a fellow south of the border however who is looking to install a STI drivettrain in a MR2. This would be my first step followed by Joe's list of mod's but I would pay closer attention to airflow modifications. 1800 lbs would be a realistic target for this project.
I just happen to know where he can get a Forester XT drivetrain complete for about 5500 canadian. Those that know about Subies, know that this is the same engine as the STI.. Lots of potential.
Muahahahaha

I'd hire Joe Cheng of B.C. to build a new A/Mod monster. Here I am driving the Phantom Special during some wing testing. Needless to say, the wing was modified from this setup due to it not producing enough downforce!
http://www.fcracer.com/videos/phantom-farzaan.mpg
If you included all of his and his co-driver's time (Gary Milligan), the Phantom Special would have likely cost upwards of $250,000. The new Vancouver Special under construction is even more expensive and has been extremely time consuming for Joe.
For those who haven't been around for long, the Phantom Special redefined A/Mod across North America. To watch Gary Milligan drive that car is a magical experience.

Since we have to start with the car we already have, I'd build this, though I still might have enough left over for a coach with a stacker trailer. :D
