one year we had a radar gun that was recording top speed on the back straight...can we get/borrow that again for this weekend?

anyone know?

the organizing club can try to rent the one owned by the Canada GT Cup series. HADA had reserved it for the Cayuga weekend (last weekend) but obviously we didn't put it to use. If there's any regional racing on the aug 10/11 weekend then the organizing club won't likely have any luck renting it, but otherwise they should be able to.

who makes decisions for solo 1 to buy things?

why not just buy a radar gun...and have it for all the events?

here is a site with several models..from $200- $1400

we could even get a display so the driver could see the speed as he/she goes by.

Perry makes those decisions for the series, unless the OSO decides they want to share in the cost of one. Or of course any of the clubs (or individuals) who want to bring this sort of equipment out to the track could do so. However, given the financial realities of the series this year I can't imagine Perry or the OSO wanting to spend money on something as unnecessary as a radar gun. If the series was raking in the cash then adding fun equipment like this would be more of an option, but for now I don't see it happening.

Good idea for the future though!

Several years ago the clubs had rented a gun from the distributor. He decided to get out of the rental business.

We have looked at buying a radar gun last year and you may recall a Shannonville event last season where I borrowed a unit from someone at work to test it. Unfortunately we did not have any money last season and this season started out with one financial problem after another.

the bushnell unit looks pretty good and I'm sure a popular marshalling assignment will be collecting top speeds.

Saweeeet! Nice Adam! That puppy should be a lot of fun! It will be interesting to see who is getting down the straight quicker!
Nice!

there...now we have a radar gun to use...it should be lots of fun..we should have a prize/recognition for TSOTD (top speed of the day)

just called the supplier..they have it in stock..so they are shipping it to me this week...we can play with it aug 9 during lapping as well..

i would guess the Z06 vettes will have the top speed...since they are v8's :)

its not as powerfull as the expensive guns...but who needs to track cars 4000ft away? i think 1300 ft is more than far enough for what we are doing..

Nice Adam. This should be fun.......

Now everybody can see my mighty 140kph top speed down the straight. :(

I would guess Eric's Vette will have top speed. Unless Steve breaks out the WS6, but somehow I'm doubting that.

What about slowest speed? ChrisP perhaps? :p

If the OSO bought any sort of equipment I would love to see a lap time repeater. I can think of pros and cons of having one but having one would be mucho fun. Course it would also likely result in a few more FWO's. :)

we've actually discussed having a repeater at the track, but they're pretty damn expensive and setting it up in a spot that's not dangerous (ie. distracting the driver when he should be concentrating on the track) is a bit of a concern too. But yeah, I'd love to have a system set-up where drivers get immediate feedback on their lap times. You could always buy a HotLap timer and get immediate feedback on your times that way. I've wanted one for a while now but can't afford one if I keep blowing up an engine every summer :)

hmmm slowest...gotta be one of the hondas..though perry and nicks sentra's would be close :)

we could also have a SSOTD slowest speed of the day... :)

yeah erics vette should be the quickest...any one want to guess?

i will guess at 233kph

then the zo6's at 215kph

If Eric manages 233 on the straight he better look into an aero kit for his car. Especially if he ever wants to put it on the track at Mosport.

Adam, you're awesome!

Here's a link to the HotLap timers. BTW, the link is from a Canadian shop that I have ordered from in the past. Great customer service. Prices are in US dollars though but it's still cheaper than anywhere else.

What would be really cool would be to have a whole bunch of people with these things. Then you can set up the beacons at various points on the track and get sector times. Now that would be awesome and super informative!!!

I've got a Geez unit, I just haven't gotten it working with my handspring yet.

however this is an "afterwards" analysis tool. But should be greatly helpful.

We really need a pixel board to display the times for all to see!

Someone said the Corvette Club had one attached to the side of a bus that they used for their Solo II events. Anyone have any connections? Can we borrow it for a day or two?

It's still used. Their repeater is installed in their bus. So.. I'm guessing the response would be a No. :)

Victor would need to write an interface to the/any repeater.

wow those things are neat....

1 question...if we have several of these units...are each of the units sending out a coded beam..that only the one unit can pick up? or would every time you cross a beam it go off? cause that would make it useless if more than on eunit was being used on the track?

I've got the hot lap timer pointed to by the link above, they recommend using only 1 I/R transmitter on the track. If you use more than one, then you only get segment times (which could also be useful, but I wouldn't want to be adding up numbers in my head while running).

Unfortunately you still can't see the times of your competition until the results are posted. At the last event, Mark was running 0.4 faster after the first session. Over the next 2 sessions, I was able to take off 0.3 then 0.2, so I was feeling pretty good! When the results were posted, I saw that he had taken off 0.4 himself, so I was still down 0.3.

I'd love to see the results quicker - even if it was immediately after each session.
