hi there, i signed up a whlie ago, dont think ive posted yet. im in need of some tires, something affordable, hard sidewall, decent treadwear. i plan on road racing nad autocrossing the car with these tires. ive come down to two choice, the falken azenis rt 215 and the hankook ventus rs-2. now im having a hell of a time finding a dealer that carries the hankooks and anyone that does wants nearly doble what theyre worth from online tire shops. problem is the online shops that have them in stock want a small fortune to ship them. also the azenis folks dont seem to carry the 225/50/16 i want to run.
my question is this, what do you guys reccomend for a tire like the above mentioned, decent price, stiff sidewall, good traction, or do you have a place that can get them and will be fair withthe price, thanks

There are some great deals going on right now so I suggest contacting them soon ;)

The Falken RT215 has been discontinued since last year, and was not available in a 225/50/15 size, IIRC. The replacement, the RT615 is also not available in a 225/50/16 at this time, but is supposed to be released shortly.

wheel and tire doesnt carry the hankooks, but he said to try the kuhmo 711, i looked around and its rated lowe rthna the 712, the 712 didnt offer me enough sidewall strength, the car rolled too much on it. also my car is fwd and makes a fair amount of power, turbocharged 2.4 liter with alot of work, so i need something that will hold forward traction better than the 712 did and also be able to keep the car wheels down through corners. any other reccomendations for tires?

In your origional post you state that you will be AutoXing and Road Racing .... I'm assuming you mean lapping, since racing on street tires will get you nowhere. You might want to look into Yoko A032R (discontinued, so cheap), or the Toyo RA-1 (not cheap, but better than the Yoko, and last for ever).

If you are looking for a local Hankook dealer, I believe Tireworks is the one.

I picked up a set of rs-2's a tires23 in sauga just recently, I believe when I called wtz they said they weren't able to get them at the moment? tires23 was the cheapest I could find by maybe $40 or so?

if you're looking for an aggressive street tire, with a budget in mind, try a Kumho MX, Andrew at WTZ should be able to help you with those

ok, yeha i do plan on running these tires on the street and at the track/autocross, im not quite ready to buy a set of rims and tires for raceing on just yet but id like a tire thatll work good in both cases. anyways i found a place, http://www.wheelselections.com/ and they said shipped for a set of 225/50/16 rs2's im looking at 560 u.s, so im waiting for the guy to find out about duty fee's and such and if its not bad then ill end up probably going with them. from the looks of it alot of places dont carry hankook and the places that do some dont carry the rs2, some u.s palces wont ship into canada and the canadian places ive called that have them want way too much, first place wanted 880, well 877, and the other place was i believe around 750, both prices include tax, so really if this place can get them shipped to me at 560 u.s, which with the exchange rate now will be only about 650 then ill go with them.
everythig im reading on the rs2 is positive, so far no one has anything negative to say about the tires performance so id like to stay with them, the ra1 is a nice tire though too, my buddy had a set o nhis miata and had only good things to say about them.
anyways im calling the place back in an hour and a half so ill make an update once i find out whats going on, thanks for the help :)

do you have a link or number for wtz? also the mx, i was debating these tires at first aswell because they are affordable but im hearing good and bad about them, whats the sidewall like? really thats the biggest thing, i drove around for over a year on my 712's and didnt like the way they felt in corners and they really took the money i put into my suspension and threw it out the window, could have been the tire size aswell causing the sidewall to roll, but during a solo 2 event at 42 pounds in the fronts i was seeing wear down almost half the sidewall, lol, so yeah, a little too much roll for me :)

Wheel and Tire Zone is 905-624-1577, Andrew should be able to put you into the Kumho's at a good price.

I run MX's on the street, I've never actually AutoX'd with them. But on the street I'm very happy with them, good grip in both dry and wet, they only lack when the temps drop below 10 degrees, even then they're still better then most all seasons.
As for rollover on to side walls while AutoX'ing... there is only so much high air pressures can do, if you completely over drive the tires you'll be scrubbing your sidewalls regardless, even with R compounds.

yeah i do understand that, but i found my damn winter chosen tires had a stiffer sidewall than the kuhmo 712's did, and the car seemed to handle better withthem on, lol.
the mx is on my list of tires im looking at, and the azenis as much as id like a set seem to be rather hard to come by, and from reading what i have they dont seem to take to being heated up too well like a lapping day would do.
thanks again for all the info guys, im about to call the shop back ive been talking to and find out about duty and then ive got another place in toronto im waiting to hear back from

Since you already tried Wheel and Tire Zone,
It's time to phone Carl at Trac Racing like I mentioned before.
They are a major Hankook dealer and one of the National Solosprint sponsors.
They are based out of Quebec so you don't pay PST and you don't pay duty!
I bought tires from Trac Racing Depot last year, shipped to my house and paying a tire store to install them I still came out way ahead.

Just today Carl wrote this about the Hankook Z211 group buy:
Hey guys,
I haven't been able to respond to all my emails nor voice mails before the deadline so consider the deal on until I have responded to everyone.
the best way to reach me is email.... carl@tracracing.com
Thanks
Carl

650 from the US, plus 15% tax, + 6% duty (if not manufactured in North America) + broker fee (~$50) = ~$830. Buy from a Canadian distributor. Did you try TalonTire? They ship to ontario for $35, and you don't pay PST. Same deal for TRAC Racing.
