View Full Version : the hondas take revenge !!!
i bow before the awesome power and grace of the honda...defeat has been bitter sweet...
i now know that the power of the nissan is SUPREME...and that the handling prowness is to be faulted...i thought that i would be able to defeat the EVIL honda hoard with a street suspension..but it seems that is not to be...so you are forcing me to unveil my most glorious of plans...that could only be concieved with pure evil (dave prattes idea)......a FULL RACE SUSPENSION.......ahhh what was that...did i hear a faint cry..a small wimper..a slight gasp....let loose from the lips of honda drivers....yes my evil foes....i have been all along racing on a street suspension...with sub 200lb springs......ha ha ha hahahhhahahahahahah
bask in your glory now honda..... the day of your reckoning is coming....and it is coming soon...
Did you actually expect to beat that civic on street suspension?:)
yep i did....
but after being out lapping with dave on friday night..i knew the jig was up...he was carrying 120kph on the corner after the straight on pro..and i was carrying 100kph...so my advantage in straight line speed was not going to overcome that.....that being said it was only a .7 sec margin on the protrack between the evil honda, and the glorious nissan....

Hmmm, that Nissan is sounding like a nasty handling overpowered V-8. Do we get irony around here? Quick, Igor! The Eibachs!
john..lets not get crazy here... :)it handles well for a street car....but was lacking power IMO more than handling..so now that power is taken care of...handling is next....
john..so whats the word on your motor? was it the timing chain? if so that is an odd part to fail?
no?

I don't know yet. I got most of the stuff on the front of the engine off last night, but still have to pull the timing cover and oil pan. The distributor and cam gear look OK and the oil pump is spinning, so I'm running out of suspects. I agree that the chain breaking would be weird, there are so many other things that should break first.

Adam, you forgot to mention that not only did I crush your flabby Nissan that I was able to do so with such ease that I could focus on turning consistent lap times rather than aiming for just pure speed. The proof is in the trophy my friend :p
Seriously though, fun weekend Adam! We HADA weasels had a blast roasting you at the drivers meeting, though I fear I've set myself up for a nasty fall should you ever get a decent suspension and a larger set of testicles to go along with the higher cornering speeds you'll be able to carry  Guess I'll have to build that monter B20 to prevent any such turn of events.
Here's a nice little dyno plot from a B20vtec along the lines I'm thinking. Enjoy!

ha ha ha...gonna try to beat me with my wifes CRV motor.....thats a good one...just to note..i make the peak of 151 ft/lbs torque of that CRV motor on my current set up at 2300rpm...pretty much just off idle :)
all jesting aside now....good win on the weekend..i had tons of fun this weekend...and really look forward to cayuga...
back to jesting.....
you are the last honda in my path to glory(though i might have to add geo to my hit list as well)you had better concentrate on handling my friend...cause in the power dept the nissan team has just started....
dave what did you hit on the back straight?

Did we end up getting any post turn 1 speeds on Sunday? I know that the radar gun needed new batteries but did anyone deliver them up to the marshalling post?

Oh ..... the shame of it .... Not only does Dave with his rather D-tuned Motor quite easily spank you BUT .... a Css1 Type-R also lays a beating on the CSP "Mighty Nissan" ....
Your signature should really read “Spanked by a nearly stock Type R”
thats ok..evil brethren..you laugh...laugh i say..its who has the last laugh that counts...
you have earned your win this weekend
i think you are going to be very suprized what some nice stiff race coilovers will do....
it would not be fun if there was no challenge to it..... :)
batteries were delivered..i don't know if they were taking speeds or not?

I was in the last marshalling group (Y) at station 2. We did times for all cars for the last sessions. There were some times for some of the cars in the previous session as well (marshalling group X). They were on a clipboard with the run lists which was picked up in Rob Cole's truck after the last session.

That was the most fun I had since Steve, Andre and myself were figthing for the lead in the Miata class last year. While I couldn't catch Jay or Chris, I was able to prevent Moosification. Look out if I actually decide to prep the car.

Adam , Hada and Mazda girls, I believe all of you actually drive them " Ladies " cars . If I'm not mistaken Adam my stock engined "manly " ( read muscle car ) Camaro beat your " race tuned" truck motored trailer "Queen" Nissan down the Fabi straight . Where you made up time on me is in those girlie type curves where my manly heavy wgt detroit iron was out of it's league. In actual fact the fast Honda products do the same to you as you did to me, i.e. loose the drag race but win the fastest time on the basis of being light weight.
Isn't it the "manly " thing to do by trying to bulk up and the girlie thing to do by losing wgt ?? OTOH wouldn't mind trimming down to Z06 wgt.

Geez Dave, that makes my Cobra one sexually confused beast. Now I don't need a new engine, I need therapy.
Thanks.
i was wondering when the DR.detroit iron was gonna pipe up :)if i remember we were tied no? at 171kph..or did you have 172kph ? so in reality..you really only kept up with a 13 year old 142ci 4 banger vs a 350ci modern motor :)also if i remember correctly i think my times were actually faster than your detroit beast :)
down with the evil V8's as well
:)

I should shift into fifth on the back straight when I'm on Kumhos now, but I usually just wind it out to 7,000. That's around 230km/h, Adam (ChrisP can verify my 6K light comes on well before the braking zone, and that was on street tires with a soft corner launch). I think the only manly thing to do is throw away that turbocharger and match me without using a power adder, since Nissan is apparently so superior. :)
ha ha...i don't think there is any way a NA 142ci motor is ever gonna match a 350ci motor without any power adders?
wow..230kph...thats 30kph faster than any of the top vettes did on saturday..that is fast

Adam few people refer to a small block Chevy as " modern". I believe the original design dates from the 50's. At least you did refer to my car as a beast ( not a ladies car) . BTW now that I have found out how light Jud's car is and Colin Jennison has a new light wgt K member I think I won the award for heaviest car again . ( Or should that be fattest ??)
