For those thinking about travelling to SCCA events in 2007 and beyond.....

PASSPORT SOON TO BE REQUIRED FOR TRAVEL TO THE U.S.A.
As of December 31, 2006 the United States Government has a requirement that all citizens entering the U.S. via air and sea (including Americans returning home), must be in possession of a valid passport.
If you plan to travel to the U.S. in 2007 you will require a passport. Do not delay! We foresee the Canadian Passport Office being inundated with requests by the end of the year, which will surely cause the normal turnaround times to be longer than usual.[end quote]
I definitely will not be attending any SCCA events (or vacationing in the US). I wonder if there is Solo 2 in England....... :) I sure hope so......

I should add that it does say air and sea, but it is only a matter of time before it will include land as well.....

Land travel will be included in the following year (starting 2008)... it's a good idea to have a passport these days anyways...
I just got my first passport. but I got it so that I can go sit in sunny Bermuda at my sister's house sometime this summer... I'm glad I have a cheap vacation spot.

I'm happy carrying a Canadian passport while on American soil. It means I'll get shipped home if anything bad happens :)

This will make life easier. Passport on-line. Go to http://www.pptc.gc.ca/online_forms/on-line_form_e.asp

If you fill out the forms online and then print out the resulting document, you will jump right to the head of the line when you show up at the passport office. I walked into the waiting room and it was packed (easily 100 people already waiting) and I was the next person served. I didn't even have time to take my coat off. I've ever seen so many dirty looks before :D
I travel enough to the US and having a passport makes things easier. Currently you can travel without them, but when I do I get "randomly" selected for the complete car search and background check EVERY time. Apparently the computer randomly select 1 out of every 200 cars for this treatment  With a passport in hand I breeze right through.

I picked mine up for work (and never made the trip). Does make it easier at the border. Just hand them the passport and the questions are always short and sweet. When the guards see you volounteer a passport without them asking it's an instant assumption that your on the up-and-up I guess.
