View Full Version : Here's what 2001 may look like

For those people interested, I have compiled the 2000 results into the 2001 classification system. I may have missed a few cars, let me know. There are a few "Stock class" cars that ran in SS and SP last year, but I wasn't sure which of those cars were really "Stock" so I just added the car’s that I knew about. I have also included CSS2 into my spreadsheet. If there are any problems, please inform me.
I realize the CCC has made a similar Data base’s for the last three seasons, but they have neglected to show people, so I have made this to see the results of there work.
I fully support the CCC and they get my full respect. However I am concerned with the lack of stock category population. I believe the CCC’s work would be a lot easier to swallow if the Ontario region had a larger population. Only 2 Stock category classes from 2000 would have been eligible for overall champion, those are B2 and C2. For this reason almost anybody who wants to run for Overall Champ has to prep their car just so a class exists.
I don’t have an answer for our population problems. I guess I am effectively useless and should keep quite. It is obvious “word of mouth” isn’t enough! Is anybody interested in discussing this?
Could the CCC please post(release) some of there Data? I don’t have full results from 1998-1999 so I can’t complete a spreadsheet for those years.
Now how about some feedback. What do the competitors think after seeing this?
Once again Good work CCC:)

Interactive forums like this one seem to gain followers like a shot. The main reason that Solo-1 doesn't have a higher population, in my estimation, is that it seems unapproachable.
Once you're "in", it seems absurd that it could seem that way, though!

I agree Chris , 9 is too many stock classes . I guess everybody gets a trophy, hat or whatever but no body has much of a chance running a stock class and getting enough population consistantly to run for the championship . Were last years classifications that bad ?

Good point, I guess. It will be rather difficult to fill all those positions.
Maybe the board knows something we don't, though!

Well I do believe this nine-class system is better. What I want to address is the lack of SOLO population. Could more be done to promote the sport? I talk with people at school and NONE of them have heard of solo racing, mind you students aren't the richest people in the world and can't afford this with out extra financing. The problem is the people with money don't know anything about it either.
If we can draw more people to the sport, this system will be very successful. The problem is that when the "first timers" come out they are placed in a potentially competitive class but they are only going to find out they have nobody to run against. They may never comeback because of this.
The problem with the old system was that when a "first timer" comes out to play he/she might find that there car is totally out classed and they get the crap beat out of them and never came back.
The new system is a good base, but we need more competitors for it to work.

Chris , I don't think it's reasonable for a first time competitor to expect to do well in his/her class . I certainly remember getting trounced in the past numerous times which only made me realise what and where the target really was .
The other problem with 9 classes in stock is that if we expand the numbers of competitors , we'll all have less track time .
I don't think Solo 1 has a problem with getting enough competitors, it has a problem with having too many for the available spots. Usually the events are sold out in advance and you can't get in.
Solo 2 has a problem with not enough entries but that's another kettle of fish.

I think it'd be fantastic if Solo had a paid organizer like CASC does, but we'd need to have double the competitors. Because honestly, we'd have to have two events a month - in different divisions. Wouldn't we? And honestly, I can't see volunteers working twice as hard as they are now!
I wonder why Solo2 isn't more popular... quite frankly, Solo2 is much cheaper and more approachable than Solo1.

For 2001 the Solo 1 series is expanding to 7 weekends worth of competition events plus 1 school weekend.
Despite rumours to the contrary, no events were actually sold out last year.
What happened was that after the Open House a large number of events became 'temporarily' sold out and waiting lists were created. These waiting lists dissolved to the point that there were spaces available in ALL events.
Moral? Don't give up if there is a waiting list on events you'd like to contest when you register!
My point? Solo 1 needs to continually attract more competitors, especially during this year of expansion.
I got involved in the CCC in order to help allow owners of performance cars of all stripes a chance to compete fairly in their rides, whether stock, mildly modified or all-out prepared.
We have a quality product which I believe deserves publicizing amongst car enthusiasts of all stripes found in:
- car clubs not currently affiliated with the CASC, but active in track events
- racing school and lapping day organizers
- performance tuner customers, both import and domestic-oriented
- Solo 2 and autocross clubs
- amateur club and regional racing
- those wacky One-Lappers
- bored drivers surfing the web
Lets get the word out!

Christian, the BMW club is pretty big right?
How come we don't see more of those guys out at events.
BMW= motor sports right?
I suspect you have connections with the BMW club?
Now how about that Porsche Club, most of them aren’t aware solo exists in Canada. Now when a Porsche Club member said that to me……….I was very concerned. Here's somebody with money and a desire to race their car. How come a representative of Solo1 or Solo2 hasn't spoken with these clubs??????
I've tried with the Upper Canada Porsche Club, and given up. For some reason Toronto area Porsche owners just will not play.
Come to Kingston and you can't get away from Porsches, and other neat cars. I don't understand it.

Nor I.
Although, 911s really got hosed with the older Solo-1 rules.
So as not to offend, that's an opinion from a graduated rookie.

In fact a number of BMW club members have Solo'd in the past, including Bob Atkinson, Rick Doctor, Mike Boekdrukker, Peter Clifford, Martin Crisp, Mark Bidwell and more! Not all drive BMWs, but then, you don't need a BMW to join the BMW club ;).
I have been active promoting Solo 1 amongst my own contacts and students from the driving schools. I anticipate we'll see some more this year .
