Adam,

I'm assuming that you're thinking of a V-8 powered 240. Try posting to the MCO forum www.mco.org as Len Clue and Jeremy Halilton did that swap for regional road racing. They may be able to answer your questions.

yeah i met len before... i bought all his spare racing trannies from him for my 240

i should ask him how he got the power train to work..... i am pretty sure a big block fits into the 240sx engine bay..

if my motor is totally pooched it may be a very viable route?

I would lean toward a built aluminum SBC over a BBC as cost would be compareable and weight (and weight distribution) would be favorable. Also the BBC may produce too much torque. The HADA boys may not be able to grasp that concept as they may not be aware the torque can reach 3 digit figures but with torque in excess of 500 lb-ft it can be difficult to find manual trannies that won't explode.

hmmm there are several 240sx with stock trannies running with over 450ftlbs with turbo applications...plus i have 4 trannies..1 in the car and 3 spares.....

ahhhh 500ftlbs ...might be nice

the weight of the engine would be my only concern...and i would want a 100% stock motor..so its reliable

i will most likely just stick it out with my 4 banger..... since its blowing up was not its fault..it was mine :)

It looks as if Adam(hey...that rhymes with MADAM) has the gaul to come on this board and grovel around for a cheap V8.Only one day before he was lauding the benifits of force fed four bangers.
For those that camp at events a 100 FT.stay away zone is reccomended.

No doubt Alex! What kind of crap is this clown pulling anyway! What a FREAK!

Adam get your schiznit in one sock! That way we know which direction to fire the insults....... Nissan truck motor....... or V8 Garbage truck motor...

hehe

Hey, I have a garbage V8 truck motor. I'm embarrassed, too... only 480rwhp/502rwtq on 93 octane fuel, naturally aspirated and a redline of 7,100 RPM with over 400rwtq from 2,000 RPM up. It sucks. :(

(extreme sarcasm)

Adam, if you're looking to go this route you can do a few things. If you go with a L98 out of a 'vette or f-body you can get some aluminum heads and make a very strong, very inexpensive 550hp with about 85lbs more than a LS1/6 block. I stress inexpensive since the parts and know-how literally seem to be a third the cost of the LS(x) series of motors.

That's the route I'd consider if I was going that way. Oh, and don't forget that with V8s you will have that torque all the time, whether or not you want it... that is lots harder on equipment than a turbo that puffs itself up in a ramp and peaks at high torque... with the V8, your car will already be accelerating as you push the gas down. As a few people can attest, the ASP V8 cars literally leap forward as soon as we get the wave-by, if you have a good strong 450hp+ in your car (dead reliable on 91 octane!) you will have the same ability. An interesting line of thinking you have there.

(before anyone points out my engine problems of the last 18 months, it's a machining error my engine builder made and he's finally coming good for it and replacing the engine free of charge, but the motor lived just fine even though it ingested 2L of coolant during the Solo-1 teaching course this spring)

Adam , I don't really agree with Steve's approach of using a modified L 98 in that a stock LS1 probably with a different lid on the intake will get 320 hp which is more than your motor at past levels of boost and as steve mentions is 85 lb lighter than an L 98 or about 70 lb lighter than my LT1 . It will probably also run forever. If the rest of your drive train can take it you will have an LS! car at about 3000 lb and IRS, sounds like a good combo.

Yeah, it's a great motor (more like 345hp, mind you) but honestly if you wanted to have a modified V8, the L98 is just so much cheaper and makes a lot of power with a Lingenfelter style intake manifold.

Otherwise, if you want to go with a LSx motor, go with the LS6. 405hp with cast iron manifolds and oils better in hard left corners than the LS1 does. Left stock, it'll last a long time.

yeah... i talked to len about this...it looks like over 100hrs in fabbing time.....

i might just buy a another 240sx rolling chassis..and build up a V8 version..for now it seems a bit pricy for a project car...

i think i will just have to play with the turbo a bit more..and fix the head gasket :)its easier to get 400+hp from my current setup then dropping a v8 in....at 27psi boost i calculated that i was moving min 45lbs of air per min...which is a WHOPPING 588cfm..that can be translated (approx 1.5cfm per hp) 392rwhp!!! which is about right from the feel of it..since i got rubber at 150kph in a tall gear

since its failure was my fault not the engines :)
