Hey All:
I am Series Scrutineer for the Magnum Ice Race Series in Minden and the following was passed on to me in hopes of attracting Ice Racers in the off season. Thought I'd share with your board as well as it pertains to you too :)
Hello Summer Ice Racers,
As most on this list know, our friends at C.N.Y.I.R.A. hatched a great idea to hold a summer event in the form of a rallycross. Back in March, one of this group's members named Rick Young simply asked a question about if this might be a European style, wheel to wheel Rallycross, and the idea just blossomed from there. Unfortunately, C.N.Y.I.R.A. could not come to terms with their insurance carrier for this type of racing and therefore could not move forward with the plans to put on such an event.
At this month's A.M.E.C. meeting the idea was brought up for review to see if anyone wanted to make a move to hold an event like this on our end. No hands were raised. Dave Burnham motioned to shelve the idea, unless anyone volunteered to step up and make the effort.
I have decided to step up and try to make this a reality. I started a thread asking for input from our members in regards to a place we might be able to do this, on our A.M.E.C. message board. One of our members came up with some good suggestions and that gave me a direction. I have contacted and visited one of the proposed sites yesterday and have typed a report on my findings on our message board here: link to message board (http://com4.runboard.com/bamecmessageboard.fmainchat.t546|offset=10) . Please feel free to read the thread and look at the pictures posted on the site. The owner of the property liked the idea and at this point is giving a thumbs up to our proposal. More planning is needed and I will keep you all informed of any new developments as they occur. The site is located near Saratoga, NY, in the town of Corinth.
I'd like to hear from all parties interested in participating at this event. Right now I am only interested in hearing from drivers with caged race cars for the Euro style wheel to wheel rally racing. It has not yet been decided if we will open this event up to street cars for solo runs. That will be considered at a later date.
I asked for a show of hands at our recent meeting to see who would participate in this and with what cars. I haven't sent anything to the rest of the club yet, but just from those in attendance at the meeting it looks like we will have:
1. Mike Kamm #42C Nissan Sentra
2. Claude Hutchings #84B Saab 900 turbo
3. Claude Hutchings #74C Saab 900 turbo
4. Steve Denton #44B Saab 900 turbo
5. Bryon Seyfried #96 Honda Civic
6. John Subik #45 VW Golf VR6
7. Josh Teresco Saab 900 or Saab 99 [caged rally car]
8. Ken Marshal Chevy #18C
9. George Lyons #24C VW Golf GT
10. Dave Burnham [doesn't have a car yet but said he'd get one]
Please let me know if you are interested in running in this event with us. Also: Please let me know what dates in June or early/mid July are no good for you.
Regards,
Michael Kamm
