SOunds like a good deal, but the Power Fist stuff is generally pretty crappy. Any personal experience with this thing? I just got the Canadian Tire one last week (14.4v) and so far I love it. The DeWalt on is also on sale at Home Depot at $229.

No I have never used one. I was just looking through the flyer and figured someone may need one.

The Crappy Tire one occasionally goes on special - I got mine for about $140, plus I had a couple years supply of coupons, around Christmas time. Very nice unit, very small and light compared to a normal screw gun, and seems to do the job just fine.

I have a previous generation of the PowerFist Cordless Impact which is a 19v... I've been using it for two years now, and it works great... battery lasts through an entire track weekend and never has problems breaking the lugs free until the battery is nearing the end of a charge!

... battery lasts through an entire track weekend and never has problems breaking the lugs free until the battery is nearing the end of a charge!Ditto on the 19V Power Fist... fantastic buy. My biggest challenge is figuring out when to recharge it, being a Ni-Cad battery, since it will do more than a couple of weekends of tire changeovers and keep going strong.

I also have the 19v and love every minute of it.
This new one sounded like such a great deal, I went PA on the weekend to pick one up. But it turns out it only comes with one battery (even though the flyer says 2), it's not such a sweet deal without the second battery, so I passed.

I just notice that if the battery still has some charge in it, the charger will drain it first before it recharges it.....so cool:p

I have the PA 24V cordless impact, and it works great for me. I got it last year, and yes, it only came with one battery, but I bought a spare, so the total was under $200, I believe. I also have the CT one, and it sucks for car stuff, great around the house though.

I am on my 4th Canadian tire one in 3 years. They wont give me my money back, but keep replacing it. Nothing wrong with the gun itself, the batteries wont hold a charge after about 8 rechargings. I know to let it die completely before recharging, but they eventually get to the point that you cant even get 4 tires off the car with it. I personally havent had luck with PA stuff, I just returned their quick lift floor jack because with the weight of my car on it, its much slower than the one I got at Costco 3 years ago!

I would use Dewalt if I could afford it. The comparable Dewalt tool is $399 at home depot. I can't justify 4 times the price, for something I use occasionally. If I had a full time race shop, or were a tradesman, sure, but for a hobbyist, the PA gun is perfect.

Sorry to revive an old thread. I'm looking to buy a cordless impact gun. I was wondering if anyone has experienced using an impact gun with tuner spine lug nuts. I'm asking this question because these tuner lugs usually require a key/adapter. Will the adapter break?

Thanks

I use the Dewalt one, which lasts me at least 5-6 events of tire changing. I use a socket that goes on as far as possible with my tuner key. What I mean is that I use a 21mm socket on a 19/21 key, or a 19mm socket on a 17/19 tuner key.

My tuner key has at least 20 change overs on it without breaking, but I have to admit, I ALWAYS take a spare with me. That is probably why it has not broken yet. :)

No way would ever risk using my Dewalt on my tuner lugs. I always break them loose by hand and I don't let it hammer them on more than one hit then I snug them by hand again. I'm never worried about the key. I'm much more worried about the nut. They're scary thin and a spare key isn't going to do any good if you snap all the splines off.

In all the time that I have seen broken tuner stuff, the spline drive nuts never fail. It is always the key.

The internal hex style tuner stuff does split the nut, which is a pain.

I am only torquing my nuts to around 85ft-lbs, so it does not require a lot to take them off, and I always use a torque wrench to tighten them up.

I am on my 4th CT one. They work great for a bit then the batteries wont hold a charge. It had a 5yr warranty so they just keep exchanging it, but it sucks. The DeWalt or Matco ones are much better, even though more expensive.
