Is there any restrictions to running a open wheel formula car in Solo2.

The car will have pushrod suspension and be powered by a high HP Suzuki mtr.

Thanks in advance for any help

Is this an FSAE car?

Yes there are rules. Read the rule book under A-MOD and read the general competition rules.

The first will cover minimum wheel base, minimum weight and body work etc. The latter will cover fuel, roll over protection and other safety design issues.

Thanks Marsh. I will not have time to do the Regionals,I just wanted to know If this car is allowed to run at non regional events for fun.
Are there any restrictions in doing this.

The car is not an SAE car. It is based on the Radical design, but we changed the suspension to pushrod and inboard shock system and the car uses a new concept of braking technology with no rotors or conventional brake pads.

It is running a Suzuki Hayabusa Mtr soon to be turbo'd.

The car is 90% complete now and should be out in August of this year for testing.

you'd still need to conform to the documents Marsh pointed out. the GCRs apply for all ontario events. regional or non regional.

Thanks Jason.

Too bad. I wanted to run this at twin lakes. This would be an awesome solo2 car. It only weighs 650 lbs full of all fluids and has 220 hp.

We will have to test it on Solo1 days.

ummm solo 1 is bound by the same GCRs... the GCRs apply for all CASC-OR events (and club events affiliated with CASC-OR) if I remember correctly.

To clarify a little, purpose-built race cars can compete in Solo (1 and 2) events, but they must conform to the GCRs for race cars. This basically means that they must have a race level of safety equipment in the areas of:

- driver protection - driving suit, full-face SA helmet, gloves, boots, etc.
- rollover protection - roll bar or cage appropriate to the car weight as per the rules
- fuel cell
- seat belts

If the car was a race car in the first place, it should already have these things (same for the driver).

These rules are all available online at the CASC Ontario site.

Willy-D... listen....

Parachutes are NOT a new braking technology... and quite frankly... with that power:weight and sticky tires... I have NO IDEA how you're going to have time to pilot the car, negotiate the corners and look far ahead and STILL be able to deploy parachutes at the right times, cut th em away and re-deploy again at the nest "braking zone"

...but best of luck to you... and the person who's next in line who will have to avoid your discarded nylon "brakes"

 :D

Ok, I took the time to read the rules. Everything is in check. The fuel cell and racing suit. Is this for competition only or is required. This I am not clear on.

If our car will not qualify, I bought Trevor 's Formula 4 car. It already has a race history by CASC. This should be able to run in Solo 2. The only thing is, It is a single seat car and needs a bit of work before racing.

I was going to take the winter to go over the car because It has been sitting for 5 years or so.

LOL.

Gee, I was figuring it was an updated version of the braking system Fred and Barney used.

Yabba Dabba DO!

Actually it is my understanding that the nomex requirment is up to the diciplines not the GCR's. This has been removed for 2006 from the solo-2 rule book.

Woohoo! Maybe I'll come out for some regionals when I get the car back together. No more sitting out in a parking lot baking inside a Nomex oven mitt!
