Hey Guys,

Even though I only went to 2 events this year, I can't wait until next season.

I'm thinking of putting an aftermarket air intake on my Accord and I was wondering if this would change my car class in either the Regionals or PITL?

Also, if I really get into the sport next year (very high probability), I'll probably get some r-compound tires. Anybody have an opinion on good tires that won't cost me an arm and a leg!

P.S. Hey Ryan, way to go at the Regionals! 2nd place isn't too bad! And you only missed 1st by....what...less than 1/2 a second!

An aftermarket air intake will move you into the mob class for pitl and depending on the year of your Accord, you can use the step-up rule to move up to C1 or C2.

good thing I waited before replying to this one, I didn't know if it would move you up in the PITL events. I now know for a fact that these open intakes put you in SS (even if it is only the filter :P )

Ya second is good I was really hoping for a first this year but Wes is a really good driver and he proved it, The year before was just for fun. I don't think Wes felt threatened by any body in B1 last year hehe. Oh well there is allways next year.

I second the good driving to Ryan but in a sport timed to thousands of a second isn't 1/2 a second kind of like ah forever!!
Just teasing the B1 class win was well deserved and second place could just as easily been reversed,I watched you nursing the shifts and even not shifting to appenantly save the tranny for the ride home,so staying within a 1/2 second of wild wild Wes under those conditionss is admirable indeed.
I allways knew domestics couldn't take that kind of abuse(this from a guy who trailers his 16 year old import with 300,000 kms)and used up one tranny(original though)and suffered valve seal failure on a fresh engine and then main bearing failure, all good now,if I could just get enough miles on it to seat those rings!

Actaully i seem to remember Tony M. running a Nissan 2000sx and a 4th gen civic with a CAI in stock class. I enquired about it and the PITTL people told me that CAI's are ok in stock, go figure. For regionals they will bump you up a class.

Your PITL class depends entirely on the opinion of the person you ask to class you. There are no formal rules, just the organizers opinion on which car is faster. They used to say in the rules that CAI and STB were allowed in stock, but know it varies from car to car. One of the reasons I don't run PITL any more.

Actually I didn't take it too easy on the car, as you know my car has alot of torque for a four cylinder engine. I have found that it is easier to stay in one gear and try and focus on driving the rest of the car. So saying that I would shift to second as soon as possible and use my torque. But after watching Steve and Wes drive my car it may have been faster if I had downshifted at the hair pin. Some of my runs I was really throwing the shifter fast into second even before the clutch was on the floor hehe :D.

As for PITL they put me in B-mod, but I only added a rear swaybar. And to be honest I have yet to feel a difference from the extra weight on the rear axle.

I always get told to leave my car in 2nd. Although there are rare situations where the shift comes at a bad time and it is better to leave it in one gear, I find it faster to shift. Mind you it took me some time to get this good at it, and I've still got a ways to go before it's perfect. I've found the problem has become that I've been getting quicker and quicker in the corners, so my braking distances are getting shorter and shorter. It's now to the point where a downshift takes longer than it does to brake and I'm screwing up the occasional brake zone (already my weak spot) because I had to shift.
