I was wondering what the engine rules are for ASP. I currently run an 86 Fiero Gt with a 60 degree 2.8. Unfortunatley it blew it's headgaskets after a little too much fun with nitrous oxide.

i have sn the Z car guys run 240's with 3.0ltr engines and fuel injection in ASP (Jeff flemmings car comes to mind)

My perdicament is a similar one. I have the oppertunity to get a 3.4ltr 60 degree v6 at a good price, I also just picked up a Hilborn intake manifold that uses 6 downdraft TB's. The only plans I have for the engine would be a cam , 1.6 rockers , head work and headers. the bottom end would remain stock with the exception of balancing.

Any thoughts? Would I be legal?

Thanks

Nitrous isn't legal in Solo, but to be honest, that otherwise doesn't sound nearly as modified as most ASP cars.

I don't think you'll need to move to ASP for what you have there. I would suggest going to the www.soloontario.com web site and picking up as much information as you can... what class you are in largely depends on what you start out with and what you have done to the vehicle. Sometimes you can run a heavily built motor with stock suspension, or vice versa.

However, I do think the rules are such that if you put a replacement engine in that is significantly different (I.E. different block) than the original, that bumps you to Mod.

Just to clairify the car already runs ASP. I have koni's , coilovers , dropped spindles , 11.25" vented discs (9.5" solids are stock) Camaro Calipers (1Le aluminums upfront) 1" bars front and rear.

The nitrous was never used at autocrosses , just to put Mudstains and the odd Lt1 camaro in it's place. I never ran the 1/4 with it , GTEC'd to a couple high 13's. Bone stock motor , no cat , stock injectors and a 70 Shot (dry). Best Kill was a friends LS1 camaro.

The setup generaly puts down 190 @ the wheels and 230 ft Lbs.
stock is 128/150. with the 3.4 aluminum heads and the Hilborn along with a haltech I would be aiming for low 200's at the wheels and mid to high 200's TQ wise. th gen 3 heads outflow the stock iron gen 1's by a long shot. this is without bumping the cmpression and just a mild cam.

Going to make room for a turbo as well something in the range of an SP57.

If you put down a LS1 Camaro with that, he was sleeping. :) There's a 50+ year old guy in the Toronto F-body club that runs consistent 13.4s@105 these days in his completely stock '98 automatic LS1, and the auto cars trail the manuals by nearly half a second and 2-3mph when driven cleanly. The '01 and '02 cars are faster still.

But I digress.

I forgot that on this forum that you can do anything you want as long as it doesn't question the all mighty power of the F-body. Didn't you get booted right off the Supra Forums for the bias F-body rules all BS?

Drivers name is Steve Alexander , multiple scca divisional champ..he knows what he's doing.

I believe it was Brock Yates who refered to the f-body as a "hillybilly exotic"

I just asked a simple question... Anyone have a simple answer? without the my ding dong is bigger attitude?

Touchy, touchy, eh? Just pointing out a 13.9 isn't in decent-running LS1 f-body territory. Sorry if that offends, but it's a fact. I didn't dispute you, did I?

And, uh, no, I didn't get kicked off the supraforums. I deliberately don't want anything - at all - to do with that community of ego strokers and flat-out liars. My history with idiots like Tozer and Warren are fairly public - and I'm not wrong about them... which is why they don't confront me except the one time I visited their forum to clear up some misconceptions they'd spread.

As for Yates, I've spent a month of days with the man. He knows me by face and name. Do you? Unlikely. So don't quote him out of context, please.

One last thing, since you're apparently so much cooler than I, feel free to beat the 56.2 at Mosport DDT counterclockwise that I set two years ago with stock brakes, 90hp less, 100lbs more weight, a stock diff and 2% more forward mass than the car will have when I hit it next spring. You're in ASP, right? Me too.. let's see if your car runs as quick as your mouth.

(see if I try to help this fellow again...)

I'm not a Solo 2 rules expert, but I believe engine swaps are illegal so putting that 3.4 into your previously 3.0L Fiero would likely result in your car moving to Mod class where all the engine swaps go to play. Of course if you do end up in Mod you can anything you want to the car at that point since prep points go out the window. Have fun!

Dave -- whose run unofficial 55's counterclockwise on DDT in his non LS1 puddle jumpin' 1.8L Honda :)

I've run an unofficial 3.48@392mph in my tow truck. :)

Someone grab the bench! Dave's racin' again!
