Cherry Bombs rock!

More Cherries were sold in northern Ontario in 1 day than were sold for the rest of the year I suspect.
Seeing them on all of the Formula cars was one thing... seeing that 911 with twin afterburners was worth a few chuckles.
Also a cure for the annoying bump-draft... :)

not really... apparently rear-engine VW's that ran stingers out the back would sometimes have competitors sweep their rear-end and pinch the exhaust.... game over. ;)

FWIW, on my Jetta racecar, I now have a wonderful system made for me my Ian Madden in Ottawa. My 'Mosport' system was a 2.5" straight through, with a dynomax 'bullet' racing muffler in the middle of the pipe, a 90 degree turn and out under the side of the car. That was loud. I would never passed the static test. Now they got a couple of 2.5" flanges, a 2.5" straight through Dynomax Ultraflow SS and started welding. they cut the pipe right at the 90 degree turn, put a flange on. Then put a flange on the pipe that just got cut off. Voila. Mosport muffler. Then they hung the Ultraflow SS, tacked it all up, made sure it fit well, and voila. The Calabogie pipe. All I can say is that we were all VERY surprised at the results considering the new muffler is effectively a grapefruit launcher - but well worth it. Now I did have some extra work done at the same time while I was there, so my total bill for a nut-bolt check, swaping an alternator mount, fixing all my flywheel-pressure plate bolts (without removing the transmission, thanks Derrick) and the new muffler fabrication and installation taxes in was 600$. Not bad. Never peaked above 97db from trackside.

I made the comment "bore a few holes through the wing, add twist ies, and I bet he could have gotten two the three bicycles on that rack;)

Bah, a technicality. :pIs that why you city lads get lost so easily when you're out on the concessions? ;) And CMP is more than just in Eastern Ontario, it's in "The Valley" where they have "the best damn fiddler from Kaladar to Calabogie". :D

Chris hardly lives in the city.... :pI dunno. I haven't been to Dundas for quite a few years (at least twenty), and from what I remember of it, for me anyone who can't see a barn or a silo from any of the windows in his house lives in a city. :D

Yeah, I'd bet that Calabogie sells more performance mufflers at their local Canadian Tire than Nascar does...

I can see quite a few. :p LOL
Forgive my general groupings... when I say Dundas... they say: "Dundas and what?". No, no... in Hamilton, you know, 1 hour west of Toronto, in Ontario, somewhere north of the 49th parallel...?
So... Calabogie = Ottawa = Eastern/Northern/Outside of GTA-Ontario. :D

Yeah, I'd bet that Calabogie sells more performance mufflers at their local Canadian Tire than Nascar does...The closest one is in Arnprior ("the 'prior" in valley talk), and from what I heard they were sold out by late Saturday and after that those who needed them had to go up to Renfrew ("the 'frew").
And Chris, if you can see barns and silos then I guess you're OK, and we'll just put the "Northern Ontairo" reference down to giving country directions. You know "... well, to get there you go down the 1st line about 5 miles and then turn left just after where the railway tracks used to be." :D

Bringing the thread back from the dead...
Just wondering how the whole noise issue is panning out with the community. I notice there is a toll free number to register a track noise complaint.
Anybody know if it's louder or quieter than expected?

I just spoke with an old neighbor that has a cottage up at calabogie, not far from the track. I told him that this weekend was the loudest that the track will ever be - well. The exception may be when we have the entire field going down rocky road on the pin, but it isn't likely to change too too much. He was quite surprised and said that it was no different from the buzz of somebody's distance chainsaw, boats across the lake, etc... he said it was pretty much nothing that would bother him. Mind you he's more intrigued about the track and all than others that would completely oppose it. None the less, tolerant people in the community probably will not have an issue if all the drivers are under 110db. If Canada/CASC-OR get in line and start following SCCA noise regs at 103db, then it will lower the average db of the loudest cars say, maybe by 6db, which is half the perceived volume. So that would go a long way in making things better.

I find it difficult to judge the general sense of the community. I did have two encounters with local residents on the weekend where they expressed some level of frustration over the noise. Well the second one may not have been about the noise in particular. I passed a man walking his dog as I left the track on Sunday evening, one massive rig in front of me, an open trailer with a race car on the truck behind me, and myself towing the MCO trailer. He frowned and shook his head quite dramatically as we passed. I smiled an waved as friendly as I could.(hope this didn't add to his frustration) Anyway, I'm not really sure what his specific complaint was.

Heck, it's not just the racing traffic they have to complain about. Coming up on Thursday morning bright and early (probably around 6:50am), halfway to Calabogie on the 508 I nearly get taken out by a logging truck full of logs coming the opposite direction at least 1"+ in my lane over the painted yellow lines. Good thing that it was one of the rare corners with about 2ft of pavement on the inside so that I could get on to the shoulder without hitting the gravel. It could have been messy otherwise.
I'm sure they were all impressed with the helicopters on Sunday. Not.
I can certainly sympathize with the traffic created on the 511 through town, that is an issue. So, I will agree with Greg, there are going to be people that don't mind, and others that will not find the changes agreeable.

:D Once they realize how much local revenue the track will bring in to the town then they might not have a comlpaint, the off shute could mean the town won`t raise taxes & everyone will have more cash in hand, it`ll just take time and patience, they`ll come around or the old crotchety ones will eventually turn to dust:D

One of the traffic issues for disgruntled locals could have been that while our bunch were leaving with our rigs, there were a bunch of PCA types arriving with theirs. As for noise issues, I was working the front gate on Friday and the spectator gate (east paddock gate) on Sunday, and I could hardly hear the cars on the back side of the course ... even the two FC RX7s. ;) And I seem to remember reading somewhere that the noise was well within the limits at the (?) distance points which were mandated by the MOE(?). Sorry for the lack of precision on the last point, but I'm sure someone here can give us the exact info.
