Re: Protruding wheels and associated PIPs

The purpose of fender flares is to cover the tire so it is either 2 PIPs for flares or 2 pips for tires that stick out more than the fender. It is possible then to actually have to take 4 PIPs if...

Rule Changes for 2018

Every year the CCC and Ontario Time-Attack Organizers (OTAO) try to assess the existing rules and keep the competition as close as we can.

There has been some concern about the "drift" of what is...

Re: Brake Pads

Try Raybestos ST43. They are more expensive than the G/loc Carbotechs but last longer and IMO have better pedal feel.

Re: Time Attack Workshop for 2018

Sorry Judd but those are 2 of the real areas of "discussion"

Re: Time Attack Workshop for 2018

The organizing group still needs to finalize a few details (and vote on a few). We aim to have things set for Jan 1.

Re: Suspension pipe - sway bar

You are fine with just 5.1.B.2 for any modification to the rear sway bar, either addition or removal

Re: Question about PIPs for suspension

In the interests of keeping the rule book simple (although some complain it is already too complicated) we assume that if you make a modification to your car that you do it well. Shocks are probably...

Re: Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

It all comes out in the wash when a protest is filed. Sometimes the undeclared PIPs may be internal to an engine or tranny and not easily detectable by anything other than a dyno.

I have 2...

Re: Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

Actually there are a lot of people both in and out of OTA that agree with statement 1. This is whole basis of why Chin motorsport does not have the restrictions that we do. Here is a quote from one...

Re: Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

I think the issue can be expressed easily

1) most everyone agrees that a head on or frontal impact is more likely to happen than a roll over

2) head and neck restraints likely prevent...

Re: Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

I think the whole issue revolves around relative risk as all motorsports carry risk. Even F1 drivers can die in competition despite the best safety devices in the racing world

I think most...

Re: Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

Actually Scott, I believe NASA TT has passing during competition, something we have repeatedly avoided. Car to Car contact risk has to be much higher. I think our rules are much closer to HPDE than...

Re: Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

The problem with the roll bar or cage decision is that in actual fact, we have very little evidence to go by other than anecdotal evidence. Kelly feels anecdotally that having a harness would have...

Re: Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

I expected the harness issue to be the biggest point of discussion.

I feel that a high speed frontal impact is far more likely than a rollover in my car (Corvette) and likely the structure is...

Proposed Rule Changes for 2018

The CCC has been actively discussing potential rule changes for next year's OTA. Here is what we are suggesting so far.

1) Propose to allow Toyo 888 , 888R and RA-1 tires as zero PIP tires

Jake, did you have fun ? My guess is yes

Did you become a better driver? My guess is also yes

OTA is a great place to do things that you only dreamed of before. You don't need to spend the...

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

The internet scuttlebutt (how about that for an old timer's phrase) is that the 285 RE-71R lasts for 4 hours of track use on a Corvette. That is enough for possibly 3 whole days!! Doubt the Rival S...

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

Actually, I do have experience with Rivals (rather than Rival S s) and no the 315s are not ideal sizes (actually a bit wide and would require the extra 2 pips for sticking out beyond the fender more...

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

The problem with doing this is that the baseline is constantly evolving and rather than keeping up, we will always be behind. Right now the RS4 and V720 are getting close to the RE-71R and even BFG...

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

A long time ago, the series had no tire rules and essentially if you didn't run Hoosiers, you couldn't win.

The classification of "street" tires vs "R" compounds vs "Premium R compounds" or Ubers...

Re: Some interseting Information

Interesting for sure. It may be that a driver in an HPDE or other track event would be better off with a 3 point OEM belt in a frontal impact than with a 6 point harness without a HANS.

OTOH, I am...

Certainly don't mind if you don't have a reputable source of information but would be interested in other opinions.

My own is that a high speed frontal impact is more likely than a roll over in...

Safety Considerations for HPDE/Time-Attack

Most of us agree that going wheel to wheel racing on tarmac requires the best safety devices i.e roll cage, 5-6 point harness and HANS device.

OTOH, Ice Racing, Autoslalom,HPDE/Lapping days and...
