Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

There is a bit of rub on the front when using a lot of lock while autocrossing (both on the fenderwell behind the headlight, and maybe a bit on the fender). But nothing that seemed to do much damage....

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

Something like 2.2F/1.3R.

It's not quite as uneven as you might think from the photo. But they do seem to like to wear the shoulders.

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

As it turns out, 33% better (4 days...plus a bit of autocross). Pretty scary cost per day.

They're at least fast as a R888's magic second heat cycle all the way to those cords though

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll

The Rival and Rival-S feel like completely different tires to me. I would love to talk to an engineer at Michelin to understand what they really changed.

I think it's plausible that a single set...

Re: OMSC presents Which tires to buy for 2016

Bar none? That's impressive for a tire that I am not sure is actually faster than a R888...(which to be fair is a class above).

It sounds like the new belt package for the smaller width Rival-S...

Re: FWD Suspension Setup (Questions)

I think Dennis Grant's recommendation for target natural frequencies and FWD setup is pretty solid. http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets.html

Make sure you're getting as much load transfer...

Re: OTA is...:

Using what is in the name of the series is probably a good idea.

However, I always describe OTA as a time trial series to anyone I talk to.

To me "time attack" means:
* Open concept rules with...

Re: The DATA thread.

How many competitive days (or is it measured in laps) do you feel you get out of them? My forum research has been ambiguous, although I have heard them called "Two Days".

Re: The DATA thread.

Soft compound TD? How many days/heat cycles/use on them?

Re: Photos from OTA #1 June 6, 2015

Waiting for the results to be posted was a lot easier back when I already had the results

Re: PAX vs WHP vs optimization

If you're being strategic, make sure you run the numbers for Mosport - it uses a slightly different PAX modifier, which is also in the rulebook.

Re: Scratching my head

Maybe they are, but it is always hard to tell with UTQG. Nothing I have seen suggests that the PSC2 is as fast as top-flight treaded R comps like the Trofeo R or Ventus TD (Soft). It would be...

Re: Scratching my head

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 is probably the street tire with the most heat capacity now.

I was frustrated by the Rival but it is not a soft or vague tire. Just slidey.

Re: Suggestions for rule changes for 2015

I don't know about tires, but the huge wing Jack's car runs on the track (but is always removed for photos) probably helps.

Not really sure that a Pilot Sport Cup 2 is better than an NT01,...

Re: Quick Rule Question

Maybe - NASA TT seems to me to be a spec A6 (now A7) series, so it might be worth digging a little deeper to see if that number is based on anything.

Re: Quick Rule Question

The R888s I just went through were mid-2013 tires and it was a pretty similar story. First day on them I was wishing I used them for OTA. By the fifth day I was thanking myself for never being that...

Re: Quick Rule Question

Does the R888 or NT01 fit your car? Both those will get you back into the +5pip range and they seem to be about the same speed as the Maxxis.

I have been happy enough with the R888 in the sense...

Re: Suggestions for rule changes for 2015

One really needs to go a bit deeper and do an analysis along these lines. % weight or power loss/gain doesn't obviously tell you how a car will get scored.

e.g.,...

* AIM Solo

Re: Suggestions for rule changes for 2015

Dave,

The organizing committee has built a fundamentally strong and effective system for scoring cars. The arguing around the edges is proof of its strength. The organizing committee has done that...

Re: Suggestions for rule changes for 2015

The organizing committee needs something to panic over, even if in a historical context it doesn't make sense. e.g., 350Z , Mustang, Mustang II, high power cars, 3-series, low weight cars. Certainly...

Re: Suggestions for rule changes for 2015

Sure, many high end dampers are adjustable. But my point is that the CSCS ruleset regarding dampers is basically irrelevant, and arguably illogical. You can get whatever damper performance you want...

Re: Suggestions for rule changes for 2015

Because a damper does not need to be externally adjustable or have an external reservoir to be optimal for a known lap of a known track.

A good take apart shock is arbitrarily adjustable without...
