How so I sign up for events w/o going to open house?

Hi all,
I'm the president of Solo 1 in Quebec and am interested in participating in one or two of your events for 2002. I read on the MCO forum that your events are often sold out at the open house. Is there a procedure to sign up long-distance, i.e., without going to the open house? Can one sign up the day of an event (at extra cost)? Thanks for any suggestions.

Vince

Hi Vince,

We'd love to have you out to some of our events. Actually a couple of years ago a whole group of us came up to Quebec to run a weekend at Blainville with the LAPS guys. It was a lot of fun.

I'm not sure what the procedure is for registering without coming to the Open House but I do know that it can be done. I also know that this year, there will be no sold out events.

Robert Mcauley is our new Solo 1 Registrar and he will be able to answer all of your questions.

He does frequent this message board so I'm sure he'll come across this post sooner or later. However, if you want to reach him right away, try sending him an email directly. I've included his info for reference.

Rober Mcauley

Hope to see you at the track.

I'm Here!

Caius' information is all good.

This year, we will not be capping events, unless there is an unexpectedly high demand. In the past, we have placed caps on events, and put people on waiting lists - but the lists always cleared in time for the event.

The registration forms should be up on the web site shortly before the Open House. People that will be attending should print them off, and bring them along.

If you can't make it to the Open House, then you will be able to fax the information to me.

Hey Vince, www.laps.ca is a great site. We occasionally get to Quebec for vacations. We'll have to see if we can get to an event!

Come give us a try...

We've come a long way in the past 2 years with 3 new tracks on our schedule. If you can, come out to Quebec City for the double event in late September. The track is right on the St-Lawrence seaway, it's a beautiful area. The track there, Ste-Croix, is simple but very safe and a blast to drive. I hope to see some of you Ontario guys this year. It adds variety to you calendar as well as to our field.

Question

Hi Vince.

Hope to see you and some of your club members out at our events this year.

Does your series have a class for shifter karts?

Also, do you have a web-site, or anything else with information about your series?

We have a class for karts...

We have a website: www.laps.ca
We accept karts, but only F125's

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate!

By the way, most of our races are within a 40 minute drive of Montreal.

Thumbs up

My kart is a 125 (similarly, the only kart formula in Ontario Solo 1).

Do you get much turnout in that class?

I would seriously consider entering some of your events if there are other competitors in the class. The idea of running on some different circuits is very appealing, but I would be much more enthusiastic knowing there was some competition, at least to act as a performance benchmark.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, not karts recently

I'm sorry to tell you I haven't seen a kart in quite some time, and not at all in 2001. However, there is a large variety of vehicles, including a Mini Legend and Formula Ford. There are many types of cars too, from Rabbits to Cobra replicas. There are even a few T-Rex trikes. It would be interesting to see what a kart could do against all of these guys. However, you are likely to be the only kart.

Vince, on the LAPS calendar it lists some events as LAPS and some as CADL. What's CADL? Is that the Solo series? Are the LAPS events solo 1 events that are not part of the series?

The Sept 28/29 weekend is the only double weekend right? Too bad 'cause I was thinking about going up to Mt. Tremblant for a week in the summer and that would have tied in nicely with a weekend of Solo 1.

LAPS Solo 1

CADL is the Solo 2 club. As you can see, there are 9 solo 1 events. The only double weekend is the one in September.

Vince,

Does LAPS or anyone else you know of hold Solo 1 events or lapping days at Mt. Tremblant? I've got to get out on that track!

Thanks for any info.,
Dave

Well...

We asked for info on Tremblant but they never answered us. Skip Barber does schools there and the Porsche Club (PCA) has schools there all the time. The Solo 2 club wanted to hold an inexpensive school there this spring, but it doesn't look good for them either. We don't even know how much it is to rent the track, but it's likely to be too expensive for our club.

Tremblant Tough to Book

The BMW Club in Quebec & New England have always booked a weekend in July for their driving school and club race.

They were confirmed, and announced the date, but then had it pulled by the owner.

Apparently he is a big Ferrari Fan, and has given some dates to that club, but, given the renovations over the last 2 years, is looking for events that can pay major $$.

The Ontario BMW Club still lists an event there over the July 1st long weekend. I'm looking to see if it is still on.

If anyone hears of any track sessions there, let us know!
