What to do off-season?

I cannot wait for the next ice racing season.
What are you guys doing to satisfy your racing cravings during those 46 weeks?

Re: What to do off-season?

Some of us organize and operate Region and Pro road races at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park,Shannonville,Calabogie and Exhibition Place. We are always looking for help for Pits,Track Rescue,Scrutineering,Grids and other roles.Training is available.
If any of you want to get involved up close in the summer racing action give me a call.

Put a tow bar on your MR2 and come autox'ing, its a very precise sport that I think helps your time on the ice and your time on the ice helps with auto'xing. There's a class for pretty much every car and every prep level, tire choice.Events in the GTA but the lots are a little tight,TLMC in Barrie hosts some of the best courses on one of the best lots in the province.
Myself,Brian,Tim and Shane are usually all there along with 50+ other car nuts.

Umm no.

I owe Tim another go at it,he got short changed at the last event due to crappy weather and the car owner hating being wet AND cold at the same time. He's going to love the Avons for sure.

Re: What to do off-season?

As Tom said, autocross is good for some cheap summer fun to pass the time. I might try drag racing this year too. They're building a track close to where I live, so it will be hard to pass up. I will have to get the car tuned up and pull the ballast out and try to rip some low 18 second passes down the track. I heard Phil McCracken does a pretty mean tune-up too.

We have a much better tuner down here,I think he might be Phils brother in law....Pat Magroin.

Re: What to do off-season?

There's always Time-Attack as well.
10 events at 5 different tracks.
Open house is April 1st at CSC Racing in Newmarket.
More details in the Time Attack section.

Re: What to do off-season?

That Mr2 is also well suited to just doing track days, lots of seat time for minimal cash.Solo 1 is ok but not cheap for the seat time, like solo2 lots of time spent standing around watching cars instead of driving cars.

Re: What to do off-season?

Lots more seat time in Time Attack (solo1) with the new format now.
Usually the end of day lapping has hardly anybody going out because everybody is so tired!

Re: What to do off-season?

IMHO, race against time is not as exciting as wheel-to-wheel.

this looks pretty close to what we do:

i'm surprised nobody here does both ice racing and dirt racing.

Re: What to do off-season?

Your right running agaisn't the clock is not for everyone, personally I like both the challenge of passing/staying ahead of the other car in wheel to wheel AND the challenge of driving agaisn't only myself. No one to blame but yourself if you go slower on a run, every mistake shows when timed to the thousands.
Of course it helps if you have one of the fastest autox cars in the province to drive.

True, but you don't have to worry about banging up your daily driver!
I don't want my street car looking like my ice racer.

Re: What to do off-season?

you could race at Kawartha downs in their small car class. go fast turn left, not my style but it might fit your door to door need for speed.
