Re: Street Studs for 2013 ...

Peter the real problem is people that can afford to replace tires every weekend or every 2nd weekend will do so and maintain an advantage regardless of tire brand or stud type.
Also I don't want to spend more for a tire that "can" be used more than one season,I have a bunch of those right now that "could" be used just fine next year but the studs are all rounded off. With our land based track we will run in the dirt at least once a year and dull the studs.
I just want a reliable tire to last 1 season, trade it in and start again with sharp studs.

Re: Street Studs for 2013 ...

As I stated before, I don't see why we have to change the tires and studs. I had no problem with stud retention. The only time I lost studs or the studs got rounded off is because of the ice condition this year because of it being mild. I also had 4 tires that were from last year and still worked great throughout the season. I just don't see what the issue is but maybe I'm blind.

stud edge gets rounded decreasing the traction. this process goes much faster when a tire hits dirt. some people rotate studs 180 degrees to make sharper edge to work.

Believe me, that does not work. they rotate back within two laps.

I agree, not sure how many laps it took but every single one was pointed round edge forward after a race I tried it in this year.

Pictures of an ipike with the rally studs, personally I think they look great as the center is nearly all carbide so the leading edge won't get dulled. The aluminum outer section of our current studs wear noticably without touching dirt.No stud loss with glued or non glued build up,not sure how much time these were used for but will ask.

OK, I'm sold. Where do we vote for those?

The exposed stud being all carbide is exactly what we need.

Yes they are a #13,I'm pretty sure they sit like that when installed and stay put without growth(but will send the question in a minute).Ours with use end up pretty close to that in projection but leaned.

Re: Street Studs for 2013 ...

Just received confirmation that the studs in the picture are very close to the installed height with pretty much no growth with use. Those tires were used on a civic, some time on the front and about 75% of the season on the rears.

Andy, is aprr of your pitch to the 'new sponsor' going to include a decision on the street stud?
I know we're only into July, but, what are we doing about the street studs?
