Re: hmm..

This isn't unusual for a CSCS event. Don't get me wrong I love going to watch but I prefer CASC for racing. I feel safe on the track knowing everyone has had professional instruction and we are insured. Hope everyone is okay in the video.

Re: hmm..

I'm having a tough time understanding what happened... but it looks like he was cutting pretty far inside to run over the cone...?

If his rear inside wheel was off the ground, and it rolled over the cone, and the car was way too stiffly sprung, and he was in oversteer at that time, perhaps it applied enough leverage to tip it over. A perfect storm?

Re: hmm..

Spectators said he used up all of the curb, and then some, which kicked the car over. I was on track when it happened and I must say, some people have funny interpretations as to what a red flag means. Almost got run over after coming to an easy, controlled stop since apparently yellow and red flags might as well mean the same thing to some people...

However that being said, the culture, sheer number of cars, entires, and spectators still make CSCS events attractive to me. I found the best way to avoid running with most of the knobs is to say you're a "beginner" and run in the beginner lapping sessions. Tends to have fewer cars on track and guys tend to give way in a more responsible manner....usually anyway.

I guess this is the kick: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...S071512-29.jpg

But surprisingly close to just a grip roll. Definitely not what you expect to see.

Re: hmm..

If that photo is before the roll, he's early, braking at the early apex and the wheel isn't pointing in the correct direction either.

If it's too stiffly sprung, which it probably is, it won't take much against a grippy tire. Especially if as it hits the air he turns into the turn instead of away.

Anyhow it's not like rollovers and/or scary near roll overs haven't happened in Solo/OTA. Back in the day (not sure if OTA still does this) when a new competitor (to us) came out he needed to be signed off by an instructor before he could lap/compete alone. So on a rainy day at Nelson, I was in the car with an new-to-us driver. He was over driving the hell out of the car. I told him to reign it in. Second time out he was still over driving it. I got out told the chief marshal I wasn't getting in the car with him again and within a couple hours the guy understeered off into the fence.

Don't get me wrong, I'd feel safer competing with CASC drivers, but you'll find idiots, mistakes and accidents anywhere. At least they mandate helmets unlike some circuses we've seen.

Yes, Taylor, we still have a student/novice signoff procedure and it's more rigorous than it was back in the day.

I'm surprised you would think otherwise.

I didn't think otherwise. I simply stated, that I didn't know if it's still done in the context of a 6+ year old story from Solo (probably before it was even called SoloSprint). How would I know what OTA does (3rd iteration of the discipline since I got involved in motorsport)?

Well, we race monster trucks now mostly and you have to have an afro to participate.
