down with the street bonus!
Except for the results with B Stock. Usually Frankie is within tenths of C Stock on street tires. Here he's over a full second ahead of Louis. On days like that everything else equal, the street tire bonus can't beat R's. Especially with cars and an open diff. Mind you, i was not on "cheater" streets, but even with R1R's it would have been tough to keep up against the R's.

This has been a discussion under the tent for years now. It's further personally backed up where last year the only time I got beat was when Greg brought out R's on a really hot day against my streets. I think the same happened in 2010 too against Rob on R's one day.

The R's didnt "feel" quicker but apparently it gave much better times..unless people were running worse times than usual last event. I guess in the beginning of the run it felt like the car was plowing but mid to end run, it felt more sticky...such as the sweeping turn before the slalom I was able to take much faster (and get a wheel up). I dont plan to run R's forever, my street starspecs are going on the spare rims when tread runs out and when I burn up the rest of the R's. It was pretty much experimental since used R's are pretty cheap to burn...and because lapping days kill my street tires.

Well taking myself out of the equation you were significantly quicker than Louis that day and it's the first day this year you were on R's and it was rather hot.

I'm sure I left a bit of time out there in the middle though I did run a couple fun-runs trying some changes, but I did not run quicker.. however those tires of mine seem to heat up very quickly and I probably needed to bleed some air from them between the runs.

I can't speak for Louis's performance for the day, just looking at the trend for this year.

Over the course of 8 events, I'm sure streets are the value move if you can afford to drop an event or two, however for days like that, R's should come out on top.

I don't know which R's you were running but I'm guessing they weren't Z214's or Hoosier A6's or anything so you can imagine what an uber R can do... still can't compare against my massive wheels and Eco tires.

Was running RA-1's. I wanted to try the A6's but none for sale at the time that I bought them last year. I dont want brand new R's either since I'm not running enough camber.

The day I had the bet with Rami he brought R comps for his 350z. The event previous I beat him, when he (both of us) had street tires. The Rs definitely have the advantage in my eyes.

I feel our suspension setup is poor and driving is mediocre, but I would still like to slap some RS3's on the car to see how well we can run against Brian and Travis with the bonus applied.

The only other excuses I can think of is the possibility that our year and a half old Z214's have been heat cycled too many times. Thoughts?

I would say your suspension is a bit on the stiff side for that lot. I found sometimes with the S2K and the motons I was sure I was losing time in some of the bumpier areas of a course. Having said this, Bryans car skips around a lot as well. I think to some extent this is why you see guys like Val up there in the times, they have a car where they're letting the suspension do it's job and they're driving it well.

Tough to speak on the driving when your guys car is so unique. It looks good out there though and you guys certainly have a lot of experience behind the wheel of it.

As for the Z214's, I dunno, I haven't driven them yet. It does seem the 'uber' R's are more susceptible to that, but I'm not sure how much heat anyone gets into them on our courses. Maybe you're talking about heat cycles via lapping days or something... I know Paul K felt Hoosiers were only great for half a season of AutoX and then fell off.

I always liked RA-1's for AutoX and it's been a long time since I've driven on V710's. I would drive them down to the cords. I found age hurt them more than heat-cycles.. again probably because we're talking autoX. But as it's been a while I'm kinda useless when it comes to R-comp opinions. Streets I'll say I liked the R1R's much better than the StarSpecs, but I didn't get to drive the star specs long and they were on the OE wheels in OE sizing so it's a rather unfair comparison.

I'm of course available anytime to give you an hands-on opinion on how the car feels. :P

Re: 2012 PITL - Event #4, Saturday July 14

i had 5+ year old 245 RA1 on my 16s and i found my new 225 RS3, stuck as well, but like i said my RA1 were old and beat

hard to say if the street tire bonus would get you enough of an edge, if the RS3 are as sticky as the Rs

We'll likely be running a softer set-up at the next event and if you're able to get out from behind that computer, you're welcome to drive for a run or two.

Welp it looks like the schedule gods have conspired, and the rest of my PITL season is over due to conflicts. I was looking forward to more seat time in the wagon!
