Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
Sure that isn't fender rub? Pretty localized.

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
There is a bit of rub on the front when using a lot of lock while autocrossing (both on the fenderwell behind the headlight, and maybe a bit on the fender). But nothing that seemed to do much damage.
I think this is mostly the result of the tire disintegrating (rather than wearing through). Rotate it 180 degrees and it isn't corded on that side. *shrug*

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
Is there a typo in the tire size grid? 195/50 R16 is grouped with the 14 inch wheel sizes. In any event, I do know that a set of the largest available 14 inch size will get ordered in the spring.

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
205/50/15's
As a new comer to Time Attack i was a little confused as to what was actually classed as a "street tire" in picking out my choices i ended up going with Dunlop's Direzza DZ102 that had a 460 TW ...after the first event i found out the hard way 4 stale donuts from krispy kreme would have done just as well ... ![]() I would be very interested in seeing what kind of improvment some Toyo's would make. |

Does anyone know/care to speculate about the theory behind the asymmetrical non-directional R888R tread pattern? Other than the advantages of being able to rotate the tires (and manufacturing simplicity for Toyo)? I found this on the Lotus 7 forum. But it still does not explain the *why* of it. 'We would like to inform you that if the tread pattern seems to have a different orientation on either side of the car, this will not change anything with the overall performance of the tyre. There will be no problem if the grooves on one side of the car point upwards and on the other side downwards, after you fit these asymmetric tyres. The long, steep grooves on the outer shoulder of the tyres are designed to direct as much water as possible to the outside via the shortest way and therefore in shortest possible time. These tyres are designed in such a way that the water can be drained in the direction of the shoulder, to the outside, as well as in direction of the deep circumference grooves. The angle in which they run has no impact on the aquaplaning performance and the driving comfort of the tyre.” Just curious. Being able to rotate the tires left to right is good. Picture of the tires also from the Lotus 7 forum.

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
I think you may want a set of RA1 if it rains!
The Trofeos from Pirelli also were non-directional and in the wet they were terrible! I am going with RE71R for 2018 in the biggest size I can put on the car! Grant |

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
Found this quote too while googling:
“I took the car through the city streets during a particularly rainy period a few days after the initial test, when the MX-5 managed to spin the rear wheels in second gear (a very rare thing to happen for any Miata), but the tires mostly behaved as long as I kept my right foot under control. As for driving in dry conditions on a racing surface, the R888R tires deliver outstanding grip and feedback that remains consistent through multiple heat cycles. Despite a small amount of floating on turn-in, the tires were plenty responsive to remain predictable and high performing in a track environment.” http:// http://dsportmag.com/the-tec...re-evaluation/ I’ll stay off the track in the rain with these. 😎

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
Hi Everyone,
Totally new to everything here, I have purchased both RE71R and RS4 tires in preparation for 2018, but the Toyo tires seems to have more size selection once in the 17"+ rim sizes. That's cool and all but out of curiosity what will the pricing be like for the Toyo offerings?? If they are comparable to the "street tire" $/performance/longevity with the proposed Toyo discount then, of course, I would be on board. Any info on pricing would be very beneficial |

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
All you need to do is call a Toyo Motorsports vendor. Braidan Tire sponsors CASC-OR and is our preferred vendor.
![]() Register for Team Toyo with Ontario Time Attack as your discipline and you will get 40% off the list prices in this file. Check with your club to see if they have any other tire discounts for you. Those are the 2017 prices, which will likely increase 2%-3% for 2018, so consider ordering early. Estimated date of price increase is roughly March 1st. You can order now and the tires will likely ship mid-April dependent on weather. They will keep them warm for you in a warehouse during the winter and won't ship in freezing temperatures.

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
One of the big reasons for allowing Toyo tires when discussed at the Open House was the selection of tire sizes. When cross referencing the available sizes of the R888R from tire rack to the above document there are several sizes that's not available. I was wondering if they will become available or will they still be subjected to the 40% discount??
Some Sizes are: 235/50/15 245/45/16 315/35/17 315/30/18 And quite a couple of sizes missing in the 19"+ sizes Also you will notice the pricing between the above document and the pricing of tire rack are outrageously different for example: 205/50/15 $325 CDN ($195 CDN after 40% discount) vs Tirerack's $145 USD (~ $189 CDN) or 255/40/17 $420 CDN (252 CDN after 40% discount) vs Tirerack's $186 USD (~$240CDN). Which brings me to question the "40%" discount, there doesn't seem to be any benefit to the user of the tire as this seemingly amazing discount opportunity just simply brings the initially crazy price to just reasonable. Any comments on the pricing pamphlet that we have been shown? |

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
To be fair, you have to include shipping from TireRack, whether to you in Canada (about $40US/tire for me) or to a warehouse in upstate New York (about $20US/tire for me, including warehouse charge and bridge toll).
Thus, the Toyo competitor pricing is pretty comparable to one of the largest discounters of tires around, but with the advantages local shops offer. Last edited by craig; 01-14-2018 at 09:04 PM. |

Re: Toyo Tires Announcement and Sizing Poll
Hi Criag,
The point of the post isn't to discuss the extra $40/tire in shipping, it is to say that this 40% discount that we are getting simply offsets whatever markup is applied to the Toyo offerings... it is completely absurd the amount of markup that has been applied. |
