Dear Santa, how wet is picton going to be?

Dear Santa:

How wet are we going to get in Picton? I have concerns that my RS-3's won't heat up enough and my Star Specs are nearly on the wear bars. It will leave me sliding all over the runways of Picton. Plus, i hate driving around with the top up all the time.

All i want for Christmas this year is to be blessed with dry 75 degree weather at Picton. I promise I won't pull my sister's hair and set fire to her dolls.

sincerely,

Darcy

Dear Darcy,

Thanks for the cookies, milk and carrots.

If you really want to get your wish fulfilled, next time leave a steak, whiskey and a joint.

Santa

Re: Dear Santa, how wet is picton going to be?

It seems like its going to be horrible, the forecast is just getting worse! 20-30 mm of rain now predicted instead of the 10mm earlier in the week. Ughh.

I may skip out, I really wanted to run this its my first autocross year and this event sounds like so much fun (I've been doing the PITL events).

sjd and I are going to be on brand new full tread R1Rs. Looks like it's going to be a good choice for this event!

The good news is that Picton drains really well.

Saturday's forecast has become worse while Sunday's has become better. Besides its mm not cm.

Its a great event and as much as I hate standing out in the rain, Picton is worth it.

Re: Dear Santa, how wet is picton going to be?

Can you go on the Sunday only? Or is Saturday a prereq to Sunday?

EDIT: Forecast changed again, less rain more sunshine, still a fair amount of rain, screw it I'll chance it I know I'll end up regretting it if I don't go! (Yes I'm arguing with myself)

Re: Dear Santa, how wet is picton going to be?

I mentioned the difference in POP forecasts for Picton between theweathernetwork (80%) and Environment Canada (60%) to a meteorologist. He says:

"60% means that there is more chance of getting rain then not getting rain."

thanks wiseguy.

The Weather Network just updated to 60%, so they don't know anything either.

Re: Dear Santa, how wet is picton going to be?

You've got to look at what that means though. Doing an hour by hour lookup helps a lot.

I remember one weekend that I was trying to plan going for a nice bike ride. Weather said 80% of rain 20-30mm for the day.

When I did hour by hour that day, it came up something like this:

10am-11am: 80% of 1-2mm
11am-12pm: 60% of 3-4mm
12pm-1pm: 40% of 10mm
1pm-2pm: 30% of 10mm

60% chance of rain doesn't mean 60% chance of 20-30mm.

There you go... just looked it up on Weathernetwork.com

8am, 9am & 10am : ~40% of 0mm ... whatever that means (maybe spit)
11am, 12pm, 1pm : 60% of < 1mm
2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm : 40% of < 1mm
6pm, 7pm, 8pm : 60% of < 1mm

Re: Dear Santa, how wet is picton going to be?

thanks Scruffy. Another thing to keep in mind is that they predict weather for the entire forecast zone, so it could rain in part of that zone but remain dry where you are & they'll still report rain.
