Real Downforce.............

Hi Guys,

I just got back from my first trip to Mosport with the Radical.

What a Track!!! What a Car!!!

For the first time ever I felt REAL downforce.

Seriously, if you don't own a Radical you are missing out!!! This car is incredible. I have never had this much fun in a car. Period.

Ron

Re: Real Downforce.............

It really is amazing how much grip it has in the fast corners.

Turn four was flat at just under 200kph

Re: Real Downforce.............

after saying that Robert I had to go and look at my telemetry for turn 4.

I was lifting on entry but still was averaging 114mph. Unreal! The car is so stable that you have no idea you are going that fast. Not to mention that it is really easy to drive!! Really confidence inspiring.........maybe not a good thing right now.

Too Much Fun!!! I can't wait to go back!!!!

Re: Real Downforce.............

With the 1500cc engine a small lift is probably best.

I only did it flat a couple of times, it compromised my exit and I couldn't set-up for turn 5 (the most important turn on the track) as I would have liked so maybe a lift would result in better lap times, I'll need to look more closely at the data.

Re: Real Downforce.............

Drove an XR3 once or twice. Compared with all the other cars I've lapped or raced in the last fifteen years, including Atoms, FSCCA's, FFords, F2000's, school series cars, a dozen GT's and sedans, and even karts, I found the radical to be the easiest to drive fast, right from the out lap. Moderate downforce, little torque available to get the thing outa shape, and little engine mass to keep it outa shape if you do manage to get it twitchy. I haven't tried the new Caterham or a Formula B, but I've gotta say I'm a big fan of bike power.

Re: Real Downforce.............

I also love the fact that as a Radical owner you can discuss set-up and driving techniques with other drivers given that we are all in the same car basically.

All the data is very transferable. This helps a ton when you are trying to figure out a track like Mosport/CTMP.

Re: Real Downforce.............

I think you meant SR3 Steven, the XR3 was a performance version of the European Ford Escort in the 1980's!

It's a very easy car to drive fast and makes the driver look good

Shoot, I totally did that, didn't I? Definitely been too long since I've had a visceral, firsthand reminder of the distinction, haha...
