Canadians Testing at Sebring

IMSA Test Days are taking place on February 6 + 7 for the Support Series - Prototype Lites and the Porsche GT3 Cup US and Canadian Series (both of which are open to 15 year old drivers) - as well as the first races in the USF2000 Winter Series.

Wednesday and Thursday of that week are the ALMS Test Days and there will be lots of cars with both a few new teams and cars.

If anyone is planning on being in the area, let me know and I'lll get you passes and VIP tours!

By the way, Robert Harrison from Calabogie's Safety Team is getting married down here in Florida today and we will be attending as the token Canadian witnesses!!!

Its been sunny and high 70s all this week and that is forecast to stay around all next week as well! Timing is everything!!

Back in time for the MCO Ice Race in February!!

Something like 18 year old hockey players signing multi-million dollar contracts, isn't it??

Re: Canadians Testing at Sebring

LOL! Gone are the days of the 16 year old american kids coming up to Canada to race :-) Back in the late 70's and early 80's, you had to be 18 to race in the US. I'm sure we all remember those days

Re: Canadians Testing at Sebring

OK - another neat story related to that...........

Last summer, I stopped at the grocery store that is about 10 minutes from my cottage and about 25 minutes north of Ottawa in the Gatineau Mountains of Quebec. I was wearing an IMSA-branded golf shirt when I fell into the cashier line behind a family. The father swung around, looked at the IMSA crest and asked if I was still involved with them. When I answered that I was, he responded that his brother had been a driver with the IMSA Camel Series many years ago. I asked him for his brother's name and he answered that his brother was David Loring, did I know him?

My jaw sort of dropped and my answer was that I most certainly did and that I had watched him many years ago when he had come to Canada at 16 years of age to race Formula 1600's. He was amazing and won just about everything he entered. Sidebar - I watched him race at the Mosport event against his closest rival - Wayne Kelly - when everything went bad.

More recently, David and I worked together when I was the Race Director for the Formula BMW Series and he was running a car for a driver in that series.

David's brother and I had a great conversation about the good old days when he was a mechanic on his brother's IMSA race team and we also agreed that it was a really small world that we should meet each other in a small grocery store in Quebec!!

You get to meet a lot of really interesting folks in motorsports!!

We are currently in Daytona waiting to enter the RV park Tuesday for the Rolex 24.
Then we are in Sebring Feb and March.
Whats the deal with the tickets for practice week?

I am going anyway but can never say no to tickets.

I will also be in Daytona for the 24h race. Does anyone know if there is rvs to rent on site? We are staying in a hotel near by and thought it would be neat to stay in the infield overnight instead.

Hi Doug

We are also in the Daytona area and heading over to the Gulf side a bit later this week. Will be dropping in to say 'hi' to my Grand Am friends but not staying for the 24 Hour.

Drop me a PM and I will be happy to fix you up with passes for the Sebring Test plus some special VIP 'behind the scenes' tours while you are there. You will still have to purchase passes for RV parking and such but you will get places you wouldn't otherwise without an IMSA VIP Pass.

Terry

(PS - Don't mention the 80 degree weather to anyone back home!! )

Terry
Check your PM`s for two mails I sent.

Thanks again for the offer.

We are on RV site 47 at Daytona Thursday.

As for Sebring we stay at Buttonwood RV from Feb 1 to April 1st. Its just 2 miles South of Sebring on 27.
This location is about 6 miles west of the track.

I will see you in Sebring for sure.

Re: Canadians Testing at Sebring

Three Wheeler

Good luck getting a spot in the infield.
We are always in the RV parking outside of turn 1-2.

We always get a RV spot no problem the last 6 years but this year I got the fifth last spot on Saturday Jan 21.
I couldn`t even get the four day entry pass, had to buy the two day Saturday- Sunday pass then buy the one day passes on Thursday- Friday at the gates.
I have never had problems getting the four day passes.
And the 860- RV sites have never been even 1/3 filled.

The Track sales office said they are surprised and think its the because of the 50th year for the Rollex 24.

Most years at the 24 hour its like a CASA race, racers plus crew plus some friends and no problem getting tickets etc.
SO this year I think things have changed for ROAD RACING.

SO GET YOUR TICKETS AND ROOMS NOW!!!!!!

Re: Canadians Testing at Sebring

We got two day passes along with Patrick Dempsey meet and greet tickets. I was wondering if people rent out RV's in the infield - I dont actually own one. I really wanted to fall asleep to the sound of race cars but I don't think it will happen.

Last year was great but this years is sounding like it will be even better!

Re: Canadians Testing at Sebring

We've done the rv thing before too. No time this year though, staying at the Americano hotel. Just fall asleep in the bleachers... God knows I've done that.

Re: Canadians Testing at Sebring

IMSA books us into condos at the Golf Club which is what I use during race week but when Barb and I are here during the Test Week, we book one of the pool-side cottages at the Historic Kenilworth Hotel in Old Sebring. 10 minutes from the track and a really neat 100 year old hotel.

Awesome steaks at Yanni's on the hiway on the 'new side' btw.

Make sure you look me up while you're there! Its always good to hear Canadian being spoken plus I'll give you the Platinum Tour of the Race Control facility!

Re: Canadians Testing at Sebring

I'll be at Daytona Tuesday night.
I'm surprised so many tickets have been sold, Roar before the 24 was pretty quiet a few weeks ago.
