Free entry fee - double event aug 11/12

Atlantic Region Motorsports (ARMS) will be hosting Regional Rounds 3 & 4 at Atlantic Motorsport Park (AMP), Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia on August 11 & 12. This is a double event. This event is open to all Regional & non-Regional racers and classes are GT1/2/3/4/5/6 & Spec Miata. Non Regional racers can enjoy a NO ENTRY FEE for both events. It does not matter what type of race car that you have as long as it is closed wheels (fenders) and has an annual tech. ARMS will classify your car in one of the GT classes (except SM - these cars will remain SM). You will require a current Regional license & your typical safety gear.

This double event will provide you with a HUGE amount of track time. Most likely not what you are used to. So here is the schedule;

AUGUST 11;
8:00 - 9:00 Registration and Tech Inspection (mandatory)
9:00 DRIVERS MEETING (mandatory)
9:15 Marshals on station
9:30 GT practice & qualifying 40 min
10:15 SM practice & qualifying 40 min
11:00 GT race 15 laps
11:30 SM race 15 laps

12:00 Lunch and Parade Lapping (45 min)

1:00 GT race B 15 laps
1:30 SM race 15 laps
2:00 Unlimited race 15 laps
2:30 SM race 15 laps
3:00 Marshal's Break and track cleanup (THANK YOU MARSHALS)
3:30 1 HOUR ATLANTIC CHALLENGE RACE (GT & SM)
4:45 Results Presentation and Volunteer Appreciation Draw

AUGUST 12;
8:00 - 9:00 Registration and Tech Inspection (mandatory)
9:00 DRIVERS MEETING (mandatory)
9:15 Marshals on station
9:30 GT practice & qualifying 40 min
10:15 SM practice & qualifying 40 min
11:00 GT race 15 laps
11:30 SM race 15 laps

12:00 Lunch and Parade Lapping (45 min)

1:00 GT race B 15 laps
1:30 SM race 15 laps
2:00 Unlimited race 15 laps
2:30 SM race 15 laps
3:00 Marshal's Break and track cleanup (THANK YOU MARSHALS)
3:30 1 HOUR ATLANTIC CHALLENGE RACE (GT & SM)
4:45 Results Presentation and Volunteer Appreciation Draw

We are still trying to figure out if there will be FREE Friday practice as well. We are working on that. You can camp at the track or local motel or B&B. Those SM competitors can join our local SM group for some awesome competition. Its going to be one heck of a racing weekend. So, if you are interested in a motorsport vacation, haul it down here for some big time fun. If you want more information you can ask it here, email, or give me a call.

If you guys do the same thing in 2013, count me in. Making plans already to try to get out there.

My "new" Hyundai needs to return home a few times!

Most likely. This is our 4th year for the double event. Also dont forget our 3-hour enduro (free entry) on Oct 8.

BTW, which Hyundai did you buy, the Elantra or the Tib?

Re: Free entry fee - double event aug 11/12

Here is a taste of some intense Spec Miata racing in the Toyo Tires Spec Miata Championship at Atlantic Motorsport Park. This race is the 2nd Spec Miata race on June 24, 2012 (race no. 5 out of 15). This battle is mostly between Cal Vandaalen (in car camera), Steve Ellis (red #24) and myself (blue #25). There are a bunch of others not too far from us and they keep appearing in the mirrors. This is the whole 15 lap race in HD no less (almost 23 minutes!). It gets really heated up at the 11:00 mark and we go 3-wide into turn 1 . Drafting actually works at our track and we did it to each other several times in this race. Cal was leading on the very last lap. He was too busy watching his mirrors and dropped a wheel off the curb in turn 11, thus spinning down the front straight. I had to back off slightly or I would have plowed into the back of him, thus Steve getting by me and taking the lead. I tried another final drafting attempt on Steve down the back straight. Travelling at 180kph, 6 inches off his back bumper and a split second before I attempted my move, he let off the throttle and I plowed into the back of him. That took all the wind out of my sails and he went on to take the win with me less than 1 second behind. That was a classic “old guy” move. It was a blast of a race and we laughed our butts off afterwards.

Take a break, smell some roses, go full screen HD, turn up the volume and enjoy!!

Re: Free entry fee - double event aug 11/12

If I get all my licence stuff together this year and my saftey equipment, I may end up at the Enduro.

I ended up with the Tiburon while my long time karting/stockcar buddy got the Elantra.
