BEMC Spring Trophy Race - Saturday

Here are a few shots from Saturday practice, enjoy

Question...if the 'Pace Car' is not a car but an SUV, can it be the 'Pace Car'? :

Ok, who are the 2 old dudes in the car, one of them holding
the yellow flag.
I should know, but the memory is not so good these days.
It's been 45 years since I did some racing
at Mosport.

very old Trans-Am and club racer,

Robert Barg

Hey Bob!! Don't know if you remember way, way back to when you were at Performance Cars in St Kits and bought my '66 1275 Cooper S to make into a race car!! That was early 1967 and I used the money to buy a TR2 race car from Bruce McEachern in Woodbridge to flat tow behind my '57 Ford wagon to get to my first race school at Mosport in May!!!

I remember that you had a brand new MGB GT on your showroom floor that you had installed a 289 V8 into. Ahead of your time!!

Terry Dale (not quite 80 yet! )

Re: BEMC Spring Trophy Race - Saturday

Hi Terry,

You have a good memory! the 'good old days' were great!
I don't remember what happened to that Cooper S you sold
to Performance, and I left in the summer of 67. Kent Smith and
I ended up racing an almost stock 998 Cooper.

That MGB GT was built by shop foreman Peter Treen. He was well
known in the Burlington area for building hot rods. He was one of
the best mechanics I have known - left Performance to run his own
place and last I heard had retired and is living up north somewhere.
He did race a F 4 for a few years.

That MGB had a HP Shelby GT350 engine purchased from Stan Ward and
a Jag 3.8 rear end and a Borg Warner Tranny.
It was a prototype but BMC refused to sell us any new MGB GTs to build
a limited production run of the V8 cars.

I have found some entries and results of those days and will send them to
you if you are interested.

Send me a pm at rgbarg@shaw.ca

cheers,

old Bob
