New Potential Racer - Race Prep Questions

Greetings,
New member on the forum and first time poster.
I am looking at getting into Porsche PCA DE and lapping events, as well as racing in VARAC.
The car I am looking at is the Porsche 944.
There are 2 approaches I am considering:
1. Buying an already complete and raced 944.

2. Buying a road car that is already well prepped for DE/lapping, and then converting it in the off season for race. One prepped car I'm looking at would still require the following for VARAC, and I'm wondering if you could help me ballpark the costs of each item:
a) Roll cage (not obstructing the passenger seat, which I would keep in for DE but remove for racing); doors must remain operational.
b) FIA approved fuel cell
c) Tow rings
d) Circuit breakers/kill switches
e) External hood release
f) Set of Toyo race tires
g) 3L catch tanks for oil and coolant
h) Window nets

Re: New Potential Racer - Race Prep Questions

Without giving you breakdown of the prep costs I can guarantee you that it is cheaper for you to find a car already prepped and raced.

Check out 44cup.com classified's. There are always built cars for sale at reasonable cost.
PM me if you have any questions. I have been building and racing these cars for years.

I agree with Doug, buy a car all ready to go, let someone else take the loss, you won't regret it !!!

Re: New Potential Racer - Race Prep Questions

I was just at a seminar last month thru the Porsche club. It was held at Ultraray motorsport in Oakville. They run a small 944 team and have tons of advice. Might even know of a car available?
Check them out. I have no affiliation with them...just went down to get info on my 944 S2 cabriolet street car.
