Shannonville Top Speeds

Radar Trap, you're busted!

I only had two sessions worth of top speeds, I am unsure who has the other two sets, but here is what I have....

Also I do believe car 84 on radar1 and radar2 should be car 8.....

Re: Shannonville Top Speeds

That's cool, thanks Wes,

car 84 is car #8 because you ran ahead of me (#192)

I do find it amusing that I am the slowest in top speed in our group (SGT3), yet my lap times indicate a different outcome ...

Re: Shannonville Top Speeds

Hey, I can speak from experience, driving a Honda, it's not about the straight line speed, but the corning speeds that make fast lap times. Unless of course your talking about the never ending uphill straight at Mosport....

Re: Shannonville Top Speeds

Hey thats actually pretty cool, it showed that if I short shift 3rd by a few hundred RPM's from redline, I actually get past 140 instead of my usual 132.

Re: Shannonville Top Speeds

Just thought I'd point out Luca's consistancy ... Car# 184, top line of the paper-towel ..... 164 km/h every lap . He was the only car to get the exact same speed EVERY LAP in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

However, the red Mustang (#428) ran 166 km/h every lap except for one, and scared/impressed the heck out of us with his approach to that corner!!! (definitely made the most noise going around there of anyone!! ).

I wonder what happened to the other missing piece of paper? It would have been from the morning sessions of the "Y" group. The paper-towel was Y-group's afternoon runs.

I'd say it's because he's bouncing off redline in 4th at the end of the straight.
Not to say he isn't a very consistancy driver.

Well, I had the opposite issue. My car was the fastest down the straight in SGT3 but also the heaviest. (unlike that light wgt "trailer queen" bimmer )

I should have turned down the radio and turned off the air con.

BTW what is with a Honda civic doing 171? That is as fast in a straight line as my old LT1 Camaro Can't complain about lack of power/wgt there.

Now everyone knows that Luca can spell aero. 164 Kph but times in the 75's !!. I think Luca should get a discount 'cause obviously he doesn't get to drive as many corners as the rest of us. Some of them are straights to him.

it's no the car, it's the driver!

Actually, Miles was 172 the day before in the same car...

Our civic did 169 and 170 fairly consistently.
I did a 172 once, but blew the corner and went into the run off......

I am very glad there are no PIPs for aero. Otherwise I may be penalized for sticking my arm out the window and paddling up the straight.

Congrats to Luca. I think the GT1 track record for SMP Pro will need to be updated. Miles and Wes did pretty ok too.

Now that is funny!

What about turning in your side mirrors - is that going to get pip'd?

Honestly though, I think aero mod pips do make sense.

I don't disagree but I have always felt it was cool that aero isn't PIP'd. Aero is tricky business and I think the current rules encourage anyone with an interest in it to try it out. I doubt the chances of getting an optimized setup without spending time in a wind tunnel are that great, so if PIPs are applied by that principle then I doubt it would pay off to bolt on the aftermarket bits.

I suppose it is like the other debates about rule changes. Once stats start showing an apparent benefit not otherwise factored into the rules, discussion and perhaps rule changes are bound to follow. Certainly lots and lots of entertaining discussion.

I wonder if rocking forward and back in the driver's seat while accelerating is a body PIP... like a lightweight flywheel. I also wonder why the books never talk about the real secrets of speed.
