April Test Days at Calabogie

EDITED:
It's a go folks, we will be hosting test days Apr 18-19 at Calabogie, details and sign up on the web page. The snow will be gone, right?

For open and closed wheel race cars, Calabogie Motorsports Park is hosting two early season test days (standard format, alternating open and closed wheel sessions). Apr 18-19 (Fri-Sat). $325 per day,$575 for the two days for 5-35 minute sessions.

And, under full disclosure - there will be a sound limits enforced for the days.

Screening Test - After a brief visual muffler check, a stationary test is undertaken. Sound levels will be measured 15 feet in front and behind the vehicle while the engine is revved at the maximum allowable rpm or the red line of the tachometer. The average should be no more than 100 dbA with no single reading over 104 dbA.

Pass-by Test - With the vehicle under full acceleration on the track, a reading will be taken from 50 feet. The maximum level allowed is 92 dbA. This level and standard is the most commonly used in North America and Europe and is where the entire industry is headed.

PM me or email bruce.gregory@calabogiemotorsports.com if you are interested. Final details will be posted here and on the website, www.calabogiemotorsports.com

Re: April Test Days at Calabogie

Hey Bruce,

Is that 100db on track (same place as last year, 50' away), or in paddock testing?

Is that the same level we were tested for at Ted Powell event? Put me down for Sat, assuming the car is ready by then!

Re: April Test Days at Calabogie

100dB is the "every other weekend except Ted Powell" sound limit (i.e. the regular or lower limit). I believe the limit for the CASC race weekend was 110dB (or in that neighbourhood).

Bruce, naturally, can confirm.

Regardless of the sound regs, I'm interested for at least one day.

***CHANGED***
Hi all, here is the "official" sound test policy at Calabogie, this is what everyone should work to. Apologies, I posted 100dB for the fly by, my mistake.

Screening Test - After a brief visual muffler check, a stationary test is undertaken. Sound levels will be measured 15 feet in front and behind the vehicle while the engine is revved at the maximum allowable rpm or the red line of the tachometer. Re: April Test Days at Calabogie

I'm a bit unsure of the dB deal since I've never been tested, but will look into a quiet exhaust setup since I'd like to attend on the Saturday and maybe the Friday too.

Re: April Test Days at Calabogie

I'd count on any car needing a muffler for the 92db trackside test day. Just MHO.

I dont know about that my car is pretty quite you have to rember a turbo dose the same as a muffler and the SRT4 comes from the factory muffler less I have never had a db meter on it because it has never been a issue

Just MHO, and you may very well be right. I was assuming that you had removed the cat.

Re: April Test Days at Calabogie

Not sure if the turbo will need a muffler, but if you can find someone with a Radio Shack meter, fast response on the dBA scale, you'll have an idea of how close you are. I'd hate for you to tow out and then not meet sound.

I'm off to a conference at Miller next week, then I'll put the details up on the Calabogie web page when I get back.

Thanks for the heads-up....

Unfortunately, April will be too early for me.
