How to make Bio-Diesel?

Yes, I realize this is not a stictly AutoSlalom post, but everyone on here is a gear head, so I'm sure they'll be interested in the topic.

For fun (and profit?) I want to make some Bio-Diesel. Has anyone done it before? I mean, besides just dumping 10 litres of vegetable oil into your TDI in the summer.

What would it take to make, say, 50 litres of fuel?

Wow I don't know how many times I have now watched that Legacy go through the slalom but woah good driving

There are three basic ways I know to make bio diesel from liquid vegetable oils,

1) Lye and methanol that removes glycerin from the oils takes a little chemistry and simple equipment

2) Ion transformation using beads

3) ultrasonic treatment, like a big ultrasonic cleaner that prepares the filtered used oil to bio.

It is harder to prepare unused oils than used oils.

Used motor oil can be used in most diesle-powered vehicles (not new GM's with optical sensor) with filtration and additives. It is referred to as black diesel.
