Calling all CASCAR

Hi All,

Well, now that the Canadian Tire Series is here, there are a load of obsolete CASCAR racers out there, most set-up for ovals, and some set-up for road course. (it is easy to convert an oval racer to road course anyway).

The idea is to try and set-up a group of these cars to run as Historic Stock Cars. So if you have one lounging around or know of someone interested in getting these cars back on the track please have them contact me and I can register them. We are thinking about a year 2000 cut-off point, rolling forward each year, but it will depend on everyone to help decide. CASCAR intially started in 1985.

If we can get enough interest then a short set of rules will be put in place and we can go racing.

As a historic racer, these cars would be eligible to run at many different road courses, including Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Mt. Tremblant etc.

So, don't let them rust away, race them.

Contact Jon at Time Warp Racing for more info; twr9@execulink.com

Is this something you are looking to start on your own or is this through VARAC? If I recall the G70 class would already allow these cars built up to 1987, so why the new class and newer age limit???? Why would you want to split these cars off from G70, wouldnt that just thin out the field??? We used to have 40 car fields in Vintage back in the mid 80's, now between Vintage and G70 there may be 40 cars at regional weekends. Not to mention who has room on there schedule for another race series?

Re: Calling all CASCAR

Steve,

Currently we only allow 2 years of cars eligible in G70 since CASCAR started in 1985. Yes they can currently come out on the G70 or GT grids but so far none have. I would be surprised to find any of the really early survivors around.

I think we have more than 40 cars out between the two VARAC grids, but definitely the older group of cars has been small this year. There are so many more events to choose from that the regional grids are somehow seen as second choice. We have had groups going to various venues all year and well, there is only so much time and money....

I am putting this call out on my own to see if there is enough interest to get a number of cars running together. This would not affect the G70 grid as they would have to run on the GT grid as GT2 cars. However in HSR they have a historic stock car grid thus allowing the cars to run at different tracks. If there are enough cars then we can petition for grids at other tracks as well.

I cannot see the addition of another twenty or so cars being a problem to organize, there are plenty of opportunities for track time on exisiting grids.

The cut-off date is just a suggestion to keep things in a period look, must be the vintage racer in me.

These cars are available they are fast, safe and fun to drive, parts are readily available and they look and sound great on the track, so why not get them out of storage and onto the track.

Jon

Jon,

There are a lot of the old Sportsman series cars lying around also. There series is no longer run but add a brakelight and you're racin'.

The Sportsman Series is alive & well, and where older CASCAR chassis are raced on ovals all summer long:

Re: Calling all CASCAR

Trust me, you don't want old Cascars of pre90 or so. they run obsolete parts and steel bodies. many of the current cascars in action are as old as 10 years. the rule set is good and upgrades usually include new front clips etc. 1969 oldsmobile spindles are getting hard to find.

I'm not knocking the idea though in fact my point is just to run any cascar or better yet, you can get old busch/arca/cup cars for dirt cheap down south and there would be more available. i would recommend a crate motor though.
