Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
No one interested? Too far? Scared of a highly technical track? C'mon jump in that truck and haul butt down here. Cripes, we just did Targa Newfoundland and people came from all over the world. We have guys coming out of the woodwork for this one...
Here is a couple of Targa NF samples; http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=fnBwjngviag http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCKQKNGcE9E&NR=1 Last edited by racer-025; 09-23-2008 at 08:13 PM. |

Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
Would love to come but the drive is pretty far. Will put it up for discussion with the team for maybe next year though. Best of luck with the event!

Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
I just drove Mosport -> Moncton in a 1995 Ford Taurus (no applause, please, really
)...It took 12 hours, with a 1 hr pit-stop penalty (combined). Figure on 2hrs more for AMP. The drive is MUCH better now that the TCH is twinned from the Que/NB border... it's now all 4-lane from NB -> the ocean. |

I will be there as a spectator. Never been to AMP before, but a friend is getting married on Saturday about 1/2 hour away. Gotta work Tuesday but will call in sick Tuesday morning on the road. |

Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
I've been to AMP once, many many years ago ( I think it was 1978, my brother was three years old then ). I remember it being a REALLY neat track. I was there for a Formula Atlantic race. I wish I was coming this weekend, but Thanksgiving combined with lack of funds make it hard to attend. Besides, you guys don't need an extra Scrutineer, I would think.

Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
Actually, we are usually a corner short on the Marshals and this weekend our usual Scrutineer is busy with his son (Karting) so I may have to pull double duty for this one. Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome (and fed well) at AMP. Fot those that have never been to our track, its not really a horsepower track. You have to handle & brake well here. Smoothness is paramount for a fast lap. Its a very technical track that has an abundance of features. It takes the average racer a couple of seasons to master it. A real good GT1 car can do a 1:10. Superbikes; 1:07. FF's; 1:07. I'm running 1:17's. To date, no one has touched Gilles Villeneuve's lap record of 0:59.6.
Anyway next year, if any of you racers plan on a vacation down east, drag that race car with you. During any of our Regions events, we get TONS of seat time. You just can't beat it. Camp all weekend at the track for $10. |

Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
How did things go?
I'll take a good look at my schedule next year, if you plan to run this event again, and see if I'm inspired to travel to the Maritimes. I'm going to likely have 3 Ontario Regionals, 3 Pro Races, and then a pair of SCCA Regionals to deal with. I thought that quitting flagging meant I would be slowing down and doing less events... Guess I was wrong

Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
Well, I must say it was a termendous success indeed. It was sunny and warm on Sat, Sun & Tues. The weather gods decided to throw a monkey wrench at us for race day; Monday, throwing some rain and cold at us. However the rain stopped after the first half hour and it warmed up. Everyone had a fantastic time. Even those that showed up with slicks got brave and started the race in the light rain. The track dryed and our times got faster & faster. The long morning practice session broke a few cars (make mental note for next year; make practice session shorter so we have more cars for the race). The huge free BBQ was awsome.
Quoted thank you from the event organizer, Bill Anwyll "Thanks to everyone who came out to watch and help at the Jack Canfield Memorial Race and those who drove and those who offered their cars to others to share (especially Shannon Fraser who let me abuse his car without recrimination) and the marshals who donated their time; the MRT guys who donated their time; BAC who donated their timing and scoring expertise; Paul "Two Toe" MacDonnell for donating his time and truck; AMP for letting us use the track for free; Kartbahn for donating the insurance for the event; Lawrencetown Motors for the ostentatious trophies; Joanne Wilson for putting together the pre race barbeque as only she can; all the people who brought extra food for everyone else to enjoy. It was a glorious event despite the very changeable weather and would not have been as much fun without your input and enthusiasm. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Bill" Jack Canfield was a person that devoted his whole life to Motorsport, including motorcycle & car racing. He spent thousands of volunteer hours building & maintaining Atlantic Motorsport Park for nearly six decades, right up until the day he passed on. This event is in memory of him. We are now planning on doing this 3-hour event annually. We are hoping that some of you folks from Central Canada as well as the US would take a motorsport vacation next year and come and join us. The first picture is Jacks memorial including his old Datsun 510 in the backgound. The second picture is myself (right) and racing partner Steve Ellis taking the overall win. Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
Was that a TR8 I saw at the back of the grid?????
Love the 60's Camaro leading the field at the start. What an eclectic grid of cars. Your racing must be fun. Eric |

Re: The 2008 Jack Canfield Memorial Endurance Race
Yep, a TR8 widebody built by Ward Thompson complete with 289 V8 & a 9" ford rearend. He's raced that car for many years. That 69 Camaro driven by Mike MacKenzie finished 4th overall in this year's Targa Newfoundland Rally.
