iRacing.com special deal for CASC-OR

In 2009 CASC-OR has a new sponsor, iRacing.com motorsport simulations and members of CASC-OR affiliated clubs have been offered a special low price of $75.00 usd instead of the regular $156.00 for a full 1 year membership.

What is iRacing.com? It is an online, subscription-based racing simulation service that allows drivers from all over the world to build their skills, while accumulating valuable seat-time at a tiny fraction of the cost of real-world testing. The unique feature of iRacing.com is the hyper-detailed, ultra-realistic simulation with accurate track, vehicle and physics modeling that accurately duplicates the handling of the car, the feel of the track and the driver’s sight picture from the cockpit. Of special interest for us, Mosport is expected to be added to the track availability during 2009. This is not a video game but a true simulation as used by pro drivers.

How do I sign up? For now please send a Private Message (PM) to Gwoody27 (Gary Wood) and I will gather the names and let you know what will happen next. I look forward to hearing from many of you.

Re: iRacing.com special deal for CASC-OR

My home desktop just meets the minimum requirements so no fun for me..... Funny how my laptop is more powerful than my desktop (an it doesn't met the requirements either).

Too bad.....

Yes, "online only" in terms of not being able to install and use it w/o ever going online.

You can however login and start iRacing and then drop your connection and continue using iRacing (in practice mode; you need to be online to race other iRacers). This is handly for those in the boonies on dial-up to practice.

That is exactly what I was getting at, thanks.

Me too. Good to know.

Our home PC is the oldest of the 10 we have and memory is limited to only 512. The website said 1 MB minimum. Does it run in practice mode with less?

With 512MB, it doesn't matter what you do, it's going to suck. Keep in mine minimum requirements is basically to start the game. If you want any kind of "immersion" while playing, you'll need a pretty heavy duty gaming rig.

Their 7 year old sim (NR2003) to this day requires decent power to take advantage of all the visual options.

I know the Mac isn't exactly a great gaming platform so it's not surprising that this simulator is Windows only. That counts me out.

Re: iRacing.com special deal for CASC-OR

If want to do or are capable of "alien" lap times then a heavy duty PC is in order.

Otherwise a lesser PC will work fine.

I first tried iRacing in Nov/Dec on my wifes 3 year old Macbook Pro notebook PC and it worked well at the lowest iRacing video settings (it has 1G RAM dual booted to run windows as iRacing doesn't do Mac).

Since then I built a mid-range PC (<$500) for my son's games and iRacing and it runs it iRacing at the second highest video settings at 80fps just fine.

Practice mode has the same hardware needs as an online race session.

(If you want to try it and see how well it works on your PC, you can sign up for one month for $20US. And don't forget to turn off auto renew; if it works well enough on your PC then you can contact Gary to get the 1 year special for $75US.)

I have some experience with iRacing.com and have run iRacing on both PCs and Intel Macs. iRacing's performance has been consistent across all platforms I've tried.

If your system is close to their requirements, I'd suggest giving it a try.

Where's your helmet? You need a SNELL SA2000 helmet for a rig like that :P
