Exclamation Snow Condition in Minden

talked by phone to Tom Prentice in Minden today and asked what the likelihood of extracting any cars from storage in the gravel pit was and he responded: "Won't be for at least a couple of weeks ... we are still digging people out of their homes who haven't been able to get to the grocery store"

140 cm of snow had fallen by yesterday and as of yesterday the depth still on the ground was measured at 123 cm by my forman Robert who had to go up there from Lindsay to help his friend dig a foot path from their house down their 2 km long laneway to the road. He stands about 5 ft 8" and said the snow was up to his neck.....

Seems the only things that best able to move the snow are large snow throwers mounted on tractors, big front end loaders or by hand with a shovel.

Well Tom, with bulldozers for a start, they are the only pieces of equipment that will track straight enough to do the job of even moving the snow.

This was my truck after I finaly got it out of the valley after the second round of squalls ...

Yikes! Good luck with the cleanup guys! If that happened here, the military would get a call. In Minden, you just call Tom.

Re: Snow Condition in Minden

Well folks....I heard from Tom P. this evening. Seems they have hired a rather large sized snowblower unit to cut out the track and that feat was accomplished today!! The paddock area still has not been touched.

The ever popular flooding by hose started today as well but by Thursday it's going to be too mild for around 5 days to flood. But, the good news is, it's started!

Tom also asked me to pass on the information that anyone wishing to get into his yard and rescue their car, you may now do so. They have cleared the way in and made the storage yard accessible. I suppose just giving him a call if you're going up would be a good thing. 705-286-1428

Well, that's all the updates for now.....Hope everyone has a GREAT Holiday season. Stay safe everyone

Re: Snow Condition in Minden

was in Tom's gravel pit this weekend on my way through from Bracebridge to see what would be required to extracate my Ovlov . No problem, snow is only about 12" deep on top of the vehicle and some snow from around the vehicle will have to be shoveled but all-in-all Tom did a fantastic job removing the snow especially from in front of the vehicles - Tom thanks hugely !!!
