Impact Racing looses SFI certification. Back to 2007

It was brought to my attention that SFI is not only suspending its certification on Impact Racing equipement (Bill Simpson's), but decertifying equipment up to 2007.

Bill Simpson's reply on the Impact Racing website

http://www.impactraceproducts.com/

HANS and SFI are also sueing Impact Racing for installing counterfeit post anchors on helmets.

Racers might want to enquire with their local motorsport associations if they will accept Impact Racing safety equipment despite the decertification.

Re: Impact Racing looses SFI certification. Back to 2007

SFI is a money making consortium of Race Equipment ripping off Racers, they make two year seat belts when they car manufacturers make seat belts that are accepted by Government for twenty years.

FIA puts a five year use limit on a two thousand dollar carbon kevlar seat when the same process is good for forty years in todays planes.

There is a thread in SCCA talking about the originator of SFI living on his boat living off the profits of SFI licencing.

Bill Simpson has probably done more to upgrade safety, in all forms of motorsport, in North America than any individal and has in the past critisized the Snells, SFI, FIA and other self apointed groups.

Re: Impact Racing looses SFI certification. Back to 2007

There was a contract between SFI and Impact Racing, and the contract was breached. SFI equipment must be dated at the day of fabrication using SFI sourced labels, not the day of sale with counterfeited labels. And using counterfeited post anchors as original SFI-approved Hans parts is also not legal.

I would be interested why you say that Simpson did that much for safety? Because in the actual situation, he's not doing much by selling couterfeited parts.

You should look at Impacts website http://www.impactraceproducts.com/
Bill Simpson has saved a lot of lives along the way, and like everything else in the media, maybe we should wait until we have the real facts before passing judgement. We are probably only getting the "media facts" which likely are partically true at best.

Mike,

Given the givens here, what is the CASC stance on equipment from 2008/2007 that is currently still decertified that's out there?

SCCA is going with the "business as usual" policy. No changes.

I don't believe CASC has fallen for the SFI deal. It's FIA here, (it's the time of year to reread the rule book isn't it)

Scott,

We have belts that are SFI Spec, and permitted by the rulebook....I'll double check, but I don't believe that we have rules prohibiting use of all SFI spec products, just some.
