Tech inspections for 2004 season: suggestion

Tanney et al:

Some people have brought up the concept of tech inspections and how to best make sure participants' cars are safe and at the same time not get bogged down by politics and potential liability.

I suggest we adopt what the Corvette guys used to do at their events: self inspection. At or before registration each participant is handed a checklist which they must complete and hand in.

The checklist is pretty straight forward
- loose items removed
- floor mats removed
- no tire cord showing
- yada yada

There should also be a designated area for brake testing, as one of the items was that the car could stop from a designated speed in a specified distance.

feedback welcome

Reminder: tech inspections are about safety, not classing.

3.2.A.i: All vehicles must be in a safe condition and pass a safety inspection to be
conducted prior to the event. All items in this section are to be inspected to
ensure the vehicle meets all requirements without exception and are subject to the
approval of the scrutineer at each event.

That section is from the CNAC rule book and has been reworded.

For at least the last few seasons competitors have signed an entry form that says that they have inspected their vehicles for minimum safety standards.

We are back to the fact that maybe the regional competitors need their hands held as they read the rule book as much as new club competitors do..... myself included in some instances (I am just to lazy to read everything..... )
