Lights -

2.1.12

Cars shall have one clearly visible 55 watt halogen rearward facing, amber running light and atleast one clearly visible 24 watt rearward facing red brake light. It is strongly recommended that these lights be mounted in a location where they will not be damaged by minor impacts. In or above the rear window is recommended. The running light shall be on during races.

I understand the importance of the brake lights and a running amber just dont know what the 55 watt halogen is for.

Re: Lights -

This is actually a good one as 99% of cars do not use an amber light. All I remember is clear (yellow-ish) fog lights. Perhaps the rule should be changed to reflect what seems to be the norm as the amber part is probably making it harder for the newbies as it would not seem that a clear fog fits the rules as they appear.

Shane, the 55watt, lights that should be run are Fog lights. Some of the guys last year were using an amber "gel" over the lights that in my opinion should be replaced coz they were driving lights. They are too bright. You need an Amber fog light. period.

I can't believe that 99% were wrong !!!

Re: Lights -

Most people had a clear fog light with no gel so they were just standard headlight/foglight whiteish light. This one was fairly popular (including in my car).

Is this going to be fine again or should I track down some yellow to go over it?

Re: Lights -

As long as it's amber, or a fog light, and not a driving light.

I believe some were not 55 watt but 75 or more ...and still amber making them appear brighter and whiter, specially into the dark afternoons.

The widely used "yellow-ish" fog lights were the lights we had in mind when the rule was re-vamped to current wording. If you're running one of those....you're 100% legal We used the word "amber" to describe the yellowish colour and to avoid the use of bright white (blindingly white) or blue or rainbow or any of the other funky coloured fog lights commercially available. Guess that may be my bad as we thought that amber best described what we wanted.
